I know all Valve games are this way.

Also Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And at least the recent Total War games (empires, napoleon).

But- I am sure there are others! Help me with a more complete list please!

Upcoming games are also welcome on this list.

actually, that is basically what i was looking for. I didn't ask the question right, because I didn't understand completely how it worked.

I really want to know games that *can be* tied to steam from retail copies (not just adding a non-steam game, but actually able to download from their servers)

Obviously the above lengthy list should be right on the money for that. So +rep for everyone who contributed new info.

I am not sure if this helps further or if you already have your answer but have a look anyway if you wish:

List of Steam titles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anything ticked steamworks is an exclusive steam game (even when you purchase retail).

Very handy list if you are purchasing games secondhand!

    toodles.

I know Just Cause 2 is tied to Steam even if you buy retail, that was the driving force behind my decision not to purchase it. Same goes for MW2.

As far as I know, Metro 2033 is only downloadable through Steem. Dunno if the retail is tied, tho. All I know is that it's the game that forced me to finally buckle in and download that accursed program.

Alien Swarm! And as previously mentioned, all Valve games, CoD MW2, the last two Total War games.

    Thank God Starcraft 2 isn't Steam-only.

Yes retail Metro 2033 is also tied to Steam.

The upcoming Mafia II is also tied to Steam. August 10th for the demo for the those that are waiting. XD

...that's because it uses ActiBlizzard's own DRM scheme that is much, much worse than Steam.

it's basically the same.. activate first time online, and then you can play offline... as for WoW well yeah you need to be online b/c it's an MMORPG.. other than that, same sort of DRM. I love both these methods of DRM since it allows play anywhere (with internet) with cloud saves.
