I have a Samsung NF210-A01 Netbook which I purchased last Christmas. It has been great for everything so far. Even the games I play. I really only play games like Rome Total War, Medieval Total War etc.. but recently I tried installing Empire Total War, and the game does not run smoothly and is almost irritating to play.
This got me thinking, is it possible to install new graphics cards in this laptop? Or not? I know for some laptops it isn't possible of upgrading them, and even when it is, it is more difficult then with desktop computers, but I thought I would ask..
Thanks.![]()

Nope, it is not possible. In netbooks with integrated graphics it is double not possible.
The only laptops with replaceable graphics cards are boutique builder 15" and 17" desktop replacements: Sager, Alienware. If your laptop says Dell, HP, Acer, Sony, Asus, Apple, etc... you're out of luck. -
Sorry that little netbook is stuck with the graphics in there. There's a thread called the diy vidock for using an external graphics card to increase performance

Uhhh you seem to forget using the mini pci e slot the wifi resides in. I had to do that with one of my laptops that didn't have expresscard. It's annoying but for my old Asus it was just a matter of leaving the bottom open

If you have an accessible mPCIe slot (wifi), then yes, you can do a x1.Opt DIY eGPU installation. mabrown did just that with his Asus 1015PEM with a GT430 desktop video card.

thanks for the info nando

The thing is, by the time you invest time/money into a setup with something as meager as a GT 430 you can sell your netbook and buy something with just as powerful GPU internally in a not too much bigger form factor. With an Atom CPU + x1 PCIe you won't get nearly the performance of a GT 430 in a regular desktop system. Not to mention mPCIe slot most likely requires you to remove the bottom panel and/or modify your bottom panel for easy access to the mPCIe.
I didn't see any final benches or mabrown got it working out really either based on his last post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...851-diy-egpu-experiences-684.html#post8097429
The DIY ViDock has its potential, but I don't believe netbooks are the best opportunity. -
Well... those replies were sure heartbreaking...
.
So the best plan of action would be to sell this laptop for a better gaming laptop? -
-
-
I could, but I have no know how when it comes to working on computers. I have no idea how to build my own...
But that would be the most cost effective away.. -
-
Do you, or anyone, know of a guide to building your own computer? I have no idea what to buy, where to buy.. haha. I shall search for one in the mean time.. -
I'll build it for you for a small fee

dude buy a gaming laptop asap, trust me it worths it

If you're in USA, just use Newegg to get a decent idea on pricing and quality components. You'll basically need:
- Case
- Power Supply (don't skimp on this at all)
- Motherboard (educate yourself on features and chip compatability)
- CPU (AMD or Intel - go quad core minimum whichever you get)
- Video Card
- RAM
- Hard Drive(s)
- Optical Drive (DVDRW / Blu-Ray, etc)
- mouse, keyboard, monitor -
