get system tool 6.06 ... much better... also increase core and shader clocks in ratio of 1:2.5... so if u increase by 10MHz on core increase on 25 on shader... and watch ur temps as u game for a while using CPUID hardware monitor to prevent roasting ur laptop.

The 330M is to my knowledge the same as my 9600m GT albeit on a smaller manuf. process and stock core clock set on slightly higher (by about 25Mhz).

The first thing I did on my gpu was to flash it's BIOS and lower the voltage to 0.89V under load.
I then proceeded to OC the gpu to:
    Clock 625
    Shaders 1550
    Memory 900

Temperatures don't go over 75 Degrees C under heavy load for the GPU, and 70 degrees C for CPU (10 degrees C lower all round if I have my Zalman turned on).

    330m = 48 shaders
    9600m gt = 32 shaders.

ok and do u recommend me any specific frequency's in case i dont extremely change them or something :S ?
by the way my original clock settings are GPU graphics 475 memory 680 and processor 1045
and there is something strange when am playing games without overclocking the cpu is 85 degrees temp and GPU 74 is there something wrong because i read this form and its way cooler then 74 even after overclocking ?!

I'm on a Sony VPCCW26FX - my laptop came with the same settings as DaKing's, 475/1045/680, which I understand to be seriously underclocked.

I really don't care about OCing and I don't want to push my gpu or cause it to overheat - but I'd like to at least get it up to the standard settings. They're something like 575/1265/800, right?

Well, if I bump the core and shaders to 495 and 1089 (I haven't touched memory), the temp already runs around 67-68 C when I'm testing. This seems too high from what I've seen in the other comments, where people are actually OCing and getting temps around 70.

Any suggestions? Would it help to use NVIDIA system tools? (I'm using evga precision right now, and the fan setting is grayed out - can't edit or see where it's set.)

hey man ur laptop is same as mine i stayed for days figuring the best clock make it 625/680/1375 its the best and keeps the temp max at 74 well its like the original the max was 70 when playing high games i didnt OC because when i changed it from 680 to 780 i only gained 1.3 FPS so it dont deserve to risk it i tried more then these settings it causes crushes so try them and yea download the Nvdia 6.06 i used this one to overclock just finished prince of persia forgotten sands max settings without anti alaysing and V-sync but 1080p :D its nice game also =) for CW26 keep the ratio as the original which is 1:2.2 ...

    The GT 330M is a renamed GT 240M, not a 9600M GT.

This happened on my Sony VAIO F11 which I returned...but now it's happening on my F12.

I had OC'd to what someone else set to and they are fine:

    graphics: 730
    memory: 915
    shader: 1515
    ...

    stock is 575/790/1265
everything played great...now it locks up.

I was just playing Portal and it locked up...and if I restart the game, it plays @ 2D clock speeds...so I have to reboot.

So I reverted back to default clock speeds...played Portal...and it didn't lock up for a while...then it locked up again!
What do I do? It's not even overclocked and it's locking up...and this is brand new...but this also happened on my F11...is there a way to prevent this from happening?

    I am using nvidia's driver 257.21.

as i hav already posted before ... i am hvin a vaio cw 26 fg .... my new clocks are 620/816/1364 ... n i get max of 74 c ... it's possible to get this good temperature handling on drivers 257 or above ..... on sony this won't install so try laptopvideo2go.com for modded inf's .... !!!! m laptop gives me abt 40 fps on nfsshift , 40 fps on cod mw 2 , 70 fps on unreal 2008 , 70 fps on fear 2 , 55 fps on dirt 2 ..... all at 1366 x 768 , 2aa or 4aa[ut 2008] !!! ..... so before clocking ... download the latest version of nvidia drivers , disable physx(i.e set it to cpu) ... !! and then choose these clock setting 620 , 816 , 1364 .... u can pull the memory clock to max .. no probs on that .. !!!
    p.s : temperature handling of 197 series is v poor ... :)
p.s : if u are using a core i5 or core i7 laptop then check ur support website where u may find bios upgrades , which optimize turbo boost and temperature handling of cpu's [ very important too ] ... i experienced dramatic lowering of temp. aftr bios upgrades on my vaio cw 26 fg ....

I overclocked my GPU...check out my clock speeds. They're stable. No game crashes. Was playing Counter-Strike: Source Maxed out @ 1920x1080 over 60 FPS. And was playing Just Cause 2 @ 1280x720, High Texture, Medium shadows, then AA 4x and AS 16x...at an average frame rate of 37 FPS.

    Default clock speeds: 575/790/1265
    OVERCLOCKED CLOCK SPEEDS: 730/930/1550

It's great! If the card is not overclocked, it's impossible to play JC2.

    I'm using nvidia's latest drivers from nvidia's website. -- 257.21

And I used NVIDIA System Tools to overclock: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.05.html

This is an interesting thread for I'll be having Sager NP5125 on my hands soon.

May I know the 3DMark06/Vantage number?
and temperature after running game/test as well.

Oh I'd also like to know. Do you guys have the laptop with nVidia optimus enabled? I'm afraid I need to do some workaround for optimus enabled laptop.

Go ahead and download rivatuner and OC away. ATI tools is a good way to stress test your OC and check for artifacts and stability.

It is usually possible to boost performance by up to 25% on midrange cards through OCing. I do it routinely when I game with modern games.

Hey Guys I need some assistance, I want to play a game called BattleField: Bad company 2 with at least 40 FPS with good settings.

I have not Overclocked my Laptop and I want to know should I or not?

    Short Specs: Toshiba Satellite P500 18.4 inch, Intell core i5 M 520 , GeForce GT 330m 1GB, 4GB DDR3 RAM.

If you need information on what my current GPU clocking settings are, please tell me how to find them so I can tell you.

Picture shows my current average PC health, If overclock I want Temp below 70 please and Fan speed below 80.

Hello, I'm sorry if I am not allowed to double post but here it is.

I have OCed my laptop from 575/790/1265 to 700/825/1475 and I did the health check and I don't get anywhere near temp of 70 its always around 45-60 and fan speed still at 50. Also it runs perfectly with no loud sounds or stutter in game.
I also got a extra 5-15 fps in games but I would like to know if I should crank up the clock and get some more fps?

If so what should I set it to so I can get the most out of my laptop.

The ratio on the default is 2.2 - so I'm curious as to why 2.5 is more suitable - on the face of it the processor clock has alot more head room vs the graphics clock - is that it or is it a bit more scientific in working the formula.

I'm a bit afraid to change the memory clock - is it safe or not?

    Any help appreciated!

    Cheers ;)

Hi guys, hope I won't be too offtopic with my question, am new here.

    I have a sony f11z1e ( i7 720qm, gt330m .. etc. ) for around 8months now.
Over the summer it started to gradually get hotter and hotter, I've never oc'ed or anything but the gpu on stock 575/790/1265 heats up too much I think , I've tested world of warcraft on full settings and got tops of 87-90 degrees, I keep it at a lower setting now when I play because I think these temps are way too high, with lower settings it still is pretty hot 76-82degrees gpu and cpu cores around 75-77degrees.
Am getting a laptop cooler in 2days and hope will lower the temps.

Any ideas why is it so hot ? could it be dust build up or does the laptop have different higher temperature thresholds?or should I try and get some voltages down on gpu,cpu (if you have any guides on how I could do that as weell would be much appreaciated) ?

Laptop parts aren't like desktop ones. Laptops parts are designed for much higher temperatures as cooling on laptops is limited. Laptop CPUs and GPUs are usually designed for temps around 100C. As long as you're not exceeding 90C on a regular basis, you should be just fine.

If you're worried about it, you can do things like clean the dust out of the heatsink/fan assembly, or upgrade the thermal paste to something better.

your gpu can easily sustain 100c,but its not advisable.Since its 16" gpu should be cool.(my 13" m1330 gpu went upto 104c while gta sa lolc)Open up your laptop and clean fan, vents, apply tx2 paste to cpu and gpu,use cooler and then see.Sure to reduce 5-8c load which is then fine

Those temps are pretty much a standard for your laptop.
    Nothing out of the ordinary.
You could try undervolting your gpu though while retaining the stock clocks.
Depending on how low you can go with the voltage with stock clocks, you can gain around 15 to 20 degrees C reduction (for the gpu - although it could also affect the cpu as well).

On a side-note, you cannot undervolt the cpu I'm afraid.
At least, I don't think so.

Alrighty then, I'm not a gamer...photography, graphics design, etc. I have the Sony VPCF115FM
    This thing is SLOW!
    575/790/1265 was base.
I am up to 730/915/1515. Faster!!

I process alot of images and the such, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. Never really did any OCing either. Point me in the right direction to "test" the stability of these settings? I am currently dling 3dmark06. I have Everest watching my GPU temp...Other suggestions? Thx.

Edit: Ran 3DMark06: Score of 7642 using 730/915/1515

    Edit 2: 6541 on 575/790/1265

    These seem low....

I have the same laptop with the same problems a couple of months ago.You need to clean the thermal dispersal system by blowing a couple of times while the laptop is working. This will apart the dust and the fan will blow it out-job done!Since that had no problem as I was doin' it regularly!WoW at 63 degrees max settings!Stress test max temp 66 degrees!!!!Super fast and effective!Cheers
