Is it possible to have a game on 1 virtual desktop and have (for example) a browser on another VD? That would make my life easier lol but I tried with Civ5 and Deskspace and it would just move to whichever VD I went to.

    I believe only VirtualBox supports 3D API's, mainly Direct3D.

Can't you run Civ5 in windowed mode though?

    VirtualBox

I used Vmware Workstation and manage to play a couple older XP games that gave me issues in Win 7

I just installed a virtual copy of XP using Virtual box then I installed Stronghold crusader and it works like a charm. Make sure you turn on 3d acceleration in virtual box.

virtual box is different. thats running another operating system inside your existing one. the OP is talking about having multiple desktops. linux natively supports multiple desktops (you can have windows open in multiple desktops and switch between them). windows doesnt support it natively but deskspace is a program that attempts to emulate this (i have deskspace too). unfortunately deskspace is not perfect, and i highly doubt its possible to have CiV 5 on 1 desktop and be able to switch between other desktops seamlessly. :(

Ahh my bad saw someone else mention virtual box. I also doubt it will work but a VM will :D

Though it won't accomplish what you are trying to do.

Right as for what he is talking about, it probably will not work. even though it looks like theirs several screens, its still just one desktop, with one OP/

Yeah lol talkin gabout virtual desktops =p not machines (though I sometimes have a VM on my VD so I can switch between a fullscreen ubuntu and a fullscreen win7! lol)

I believe I could play windows... but not every game supports winodws and I'd prefer fullscreen. Civ5 was only an example.

Running a game in windows mode should work. You can not run a full screen app and then several other window apps and switch between them. Or you can but it would be the same as using alt tab to switch between the full screen app and the normal desktop.

can't you just use the multi desktop feature in catalyst control center? do you have the latest ati drivers and hydravision installed?

i only tried running world of goo in steam and it works. i set the hotkeys for ctrl+alt+[arrow up] for next desktop and ctrl+alt+[arrow down] for previous desktop.
