    Like if me and my friend each have a copy of C&C 3 or Sins of a Solar Empire and we want to play together would it work with a crossover cable between the 2 computers or do I have to bring a hub etc?

    Reason I am asking is it would be less equipment to bring just a cable and one less power outlet needed especially on an airplane.

    Thanks!

    Yeah I use a computer to computer LAN cable all the time for gaming :) (not sure of their exact technical name)

    Actually, you could even use a straight through. most modern nics can switch the wiring inside their hardware.

    my brother does that kind of gaming with a straight through (no hub)

    also, you can get a passive hub (if you can find any, i doubt it, try to find a hub that can run without power) and use that to connect multiple computers.

    static addressing might be required.

    You are still better off with a cross-over cable...you are not guaranteed to have a NIC that does the wiring swap.

    Sweet! So a crossover cable for airline use! Thats gona be great. On all overseas flights they usually have power outlets in the seats so I can just game the whole way and without needing a HUB it makes a big difference.

    Yeah use the crossover. I couldn't get a connection working with normal Cat5 ethernet with my Dell notebooks.

    All overseas flights...?

    With your brother?

    Do you regularly take Business class seats on vacation, or do the two of you run a business together or something?
