Ok so apparently I don't meet minimum requirement. But I think I barley make it.
These are my specs.
dual core 2.53 ghz proc
4gb ram
nvidia 9600m gt
I don't expect to be able to run at the highest settings. Will I be able to run it? or not at all?
-
-
You could have a go but the 9600M GT is an old girl...but personally I wouldn't recommend it and that has nothing to do with your setup
I found after 5 minutes of hunting through luggage to find only $50 and then hitting a so called zombie with a spade that degrades after 2 hits somewhat...pants. -
So its not that good of a game?
-
Mine is bargain bucket sure thing! Retail priceIf you are a working class fellow hold onto that cash till next month when the big boys release some games
Or put it towards a new setup ^ -

I would say that dead island is the type of game that tends to drop in price dramatically and quickly, regardless of how good it is.
Also, I think you more or less meet the min spec. You should be able to run the game decently. -
-
Yea, you should be able to run it well @ 720p with medium-low settings. I run it @ 1200p maxed setting on my laptop.
-
Not good, see my setup, I tried the game with low settings and it stutters a lot...the open environment kills it...i will tweak a bit more the settings, but I dont have high hopes at all...this is my wake up call for changing my machine...
Note: My processor is not as good as yours, but I did overclock the GT 9600M, minimal benefits so far. I will be recording some fps and the current settings later on tonight. -

It wont have a negative effect it just wont have any other effect. It could help a bit if there are situations that are not cpu intensive and the gpu can push some load.
Honestly if your cpu is maxed may as well try upping the grahics settings. -
Well, when I had the 9800M GTX and T9600, it indeed did have negative effect when I overclocked my GPU and played games like GTA IV. My CPU were maxed out at 99% almost all time, and overclocking just put more load on CPU. This could just have been my laptop tou, but since then I'm bit more carefull with overclocking.
-
I just know for a fact that the GPU is not on par anymore with most current games. Heck its the ddr2 version of the GT 9600M. As it is now, its just better to look for a laptop with better graphics solutions and a solid price instead of getting a better processor and still being bottlenecked by the GPU.
-
Well I just got it today. through the steam trading thing. I hope I can run it decently. It would be a damn shame if I couldn't
-
Honestly do wish it plays well for you...come back and provide feedback once you play it on your setup so I can compare...
-
You should be able to run it.
It's one of those games best played with your friendsNothing like hacking through zombies and roam the streets with your gang

There are a lot of performance tweaks you can do for the game as well to optimize it.

Any idea is there a way to safely boost my 2720QM?
Every time i use turbo boost in throttlestop under win7 it eventually reaches 100C and shuts down =/ It gives A LOT of extra power while boosted though.
Maybe its too warm in my apartment. -

I quite enjoyed Dead Island, but then I'm a huge zombie fan.
There are a lot of things about the game that could be more polished, though. From having to loot things twice (once to "search", and once to actually pick things up) and squatting each time you loot, to how sluggish everything feels, to zombies appearing outta thin air right in front of your eyes... -

I enjoy the game a lot more than I thought I would and I have not even got to do my 4 player co-op yet that I think will be even more fun.
My biggest complaints so far are how poorly the game scales and weapon durability.
First scaling is two fold. The game seems to have gotten much harder now for me and I dont mean just the new zombies and new areas. As I leveled up sure you get new skills and new weapons but you do not get new armor or any defensive skills so I find that I take MASSIVE damage now. I can go to the beach where you start the game and the regular weak walker zombies that you used to laugh at because they were so pathetic now can kill me in 3 hits from full hp and suddenly dodge kicks and do other crazy things.
So I am dying SOOO MUCH.
The other poor scaling is weapons. You find this epic blue or even orange weapon at say level 15 and upgrade it to max. An hour later you find a lvl 19 white that does more damage making all that money and time for that great rare totally a waist.
This stacks with the next flaw, weapon durability. The more rare a weapon the more it cost to repair and upgrade so if you want rare stuff it cost you more than its worth. This compounds with the dying over and over again problem to the point I cant actually even afford my weapons I have now. I get 15 kills or so and then its about broken and I didnt make enough money to pay for the repair.
So the game now has turned into this ugly situation where I cant use my good weapons, everything kills me every few minutes, and nothing feels balanced.
They need to tweak weapon scaling big time (make blues & oranges much stronger than what they are) and weapon durability (Make them last atleast 2x longer)
Then work on the issue with zombies killing me in 3 hits and then it would be a solid game start to end.
There are many more issues than just these but these are the ones really hurting the game for me.
Some of them I can self fix if I am willing to mod the game files, but then I feel like I am cheating. I already did cheat some had to dupe weapons because I could not afford to repair them. -
Well I can run it OK at the lowest settings possible. Any other tweaks I can do?
-
It does slow down on open environments, right? I will keep it safe until I upgrade to a better lappie...
Wanted to add...Hard Reset runs beautifully on this setup...you might want to try that one yourself. -
Amazing, amazing experience for me. Playing this game maxed on my Plasma TV 720p 4xAA, 16xAF maxed settings with extra sharp shadows @2048 rez maps @ an almost constant 60 fps off my sig Laptop.
I also use "dead island helper" to increase the FOV slightly and make the point of view look more realistic. I feel that this game delivers the Zombie apocalypse atmosphere better than any game before. The scenarios are simply gorgeous and feel really realistic. All the "sluggish" movements as mentioned above add to the feeling that you are really just a regular guy struggling to fight off the undead in any way that you can, with your limited abilities. Games like Left 4 Dead are great and fun, but feel really arcade-ish compared to this experience.
Really great game and recommend it to any gamer.
Can I run Dead Island?
