Ok the regular Asus G51j-A1, what do we think?

Basically what can it not run on max at the moment and how do you think it will do with stuff like Mass Effect 2 and Fallout New Vegas (yeah I know picking titles that aren't soon to be out doesn't help but I'm sure you experts already know pretty much how it will do).

Oh and just the specs of the G51j:

    i7 1.6Ghz (overclockable to 2.8Ghz)
    4gb DDR3
    GTX 260m
    15.6" glossy with 1920x1080
    W7 home premium

Oh and also how horrible would it be to downgrade the graphics card and go with the Qosmio X505-Q830 which has a gtx 250m DDR5? I know that the two are pretty similar cards, how would this effect stuff at 1680 x 945? Oh and how big is the difference between 1920x1080 compared to 1680 x 945, I haven't used either before (my desktop is in 1440x900 for a 22" screen and is average

From what I've read, an 8600M GT should handle MW2 fine.. MW2 is a directx 9 game which means it runs fine on Windows XP.

Windows 7 is supported but is not the operating system most optimized for this game (read: it probably runs better on winxp).

Just to disclose, I have not actually read someone using your card specifically for MW2. However, the specs show it runs directx 9 games. Other more demanding games such as Crysis are directx10 and would bog down with your card.

I got to say the G51j intrigued me too. I just have read too many negative comments about that screen. You mention that you have a 22" screen so it may not matter to you. However, you are buying a laptop. Surely you plan to take it places. The screen could become an issue to you. I don't have enough information to tell you how much better the GTX 260m is from the GTX 250m. However, given the reviews, I would go with the Qosmio, Retterk.

My computer is not the fastest but would MW2 run at about the same speed as COD 4? For me COD4 is playable but not that fast (for the Demo).

Is MW2 much more intensive than COD4?

Negative comments about the screen? What sort of negative comments. I'm looking through a few reviews and I think 1 person said that the screen is too glossy and creates a lot of glare but other then that people saying the screen is beautiful. Oh and someone else said they were BSoDing on it too but that's about all.

I need to take it to and from school/uni, which means it won't often be moving, but most of the time it will be plugged in and on a desk so battery life isn't that much of an issue for me.

I have a desktop Q6600 with a GeForce 8800 GT. How can the G72Gx-RBBX05 compare to it?
    its specs:
    CPU: Core2Duo P8700(2.53ghz)
    GPU: GTX 260M
    RAM: 6GB DDR2
    Display: 1600x900

I would really like to run games like GTA IV on it. How will it perform? Thanks in advance for answering

Fair question. Here is one of my sources:

I've seen several people mention the same issue. I'm not trying to make you hate this laptop, but some of these discussions about the g51j give me pause in deciding whether to buy the book.

Hope you find a good notebook for your school/dorm. Good luck.

Just a real quick question - can Prototype run on that setup? I don't think it meets the CPU minimum requirements, but it seems like it would run, at least on low or medium?

    Hey guys,

I am thinking about purchasing the new HP Mini 311 netbook to do a little bit of light gaming and usual computer tasks, and I was wondering if it could play the following games and at what settings:

    GAMES:

    - Age of Empires 3
    - The Sims 3
    - Far Cry (1 + 2)
    - NFS: Pro Street
    - GTA: San Andreas
    - Dragon Age: Origins (maybe? on lowest?)
    - XPand Rally

    SPECS:

    CPU- Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6Ghz
GPU- Nvidia Ion (Up to 896mb shared)
    RAM- 2 GB DDR3
    SCREEN: 11.6" 1366x768 native res
    HDD: 250GB 5400rpm
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

So you what do you think?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dylan :D

Some of the older games you might be able to run, on lowish, but don't expect too much with new ones like Dragon Age and GTA:SA.

Can I run Dragon Age: Origins on this?

    CPU- Intel Core2 Duo T8100 @ 2.10 GHz
GPU- NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M 128 mb dedicated (877 mb shared)
    RAM- 2 GB
OS: 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium
    It's a t61 lenovo

I've played Mass Effect/Bioshock on medium-high, and Fallout 3 on low-medium. I've heard Fallout 3 is a good benchmark for Dragon Age, and I DL'd the character creator and didn't seem to run into problems there (not that there's any actual in-game action going on). The "Can You Run It" site seems to rate my rig above the minimum requirement, but I don't know how much I can actually trust that site.

Honestly, I don't mind running the game with every setting bottomed out and @ 15 fps.

Whats the chance of running Borderlands on an HP dv5z smoothly?

    Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-60 (1.9GHz)
    2GB 667 i believe
    160GB SATA HD
    HD 3200 Graphics
    15.4" diagonal 1280 x 800

    vista x64

I've tried tweaking configs, and running at the lowest possible resoltion, but can't break 20FPS.

Would upgrading ram to 4 gigs/higher speed ram help? I know the igp is whats probably choking....but i wonder if ram size/speed effects it's ability. What about dipping into win-7. Would that give any performance increase as far as drivers and OS-optimization go?

    here's the system requirements:
    (check)1GB system RAM

    (check)2.4 GHz Pentium 4 Processor
    ?NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GS/ATI Radeon X850 Series
    (check)Dual Layered DVD-ROM drive
(check)8 GB of hard disk space

Thanks for the Link Chlwotjd, I'm kind of a tweak freak, so i think i can squeeze up another 10 FPS.. 30FPS would be wonderful for my brother ( not for me though.. xD ) he is used to Play games like JK2 and WoW @ 16 FPS and tells me war stories about how " Fast" they run

EDIT: Ohwait.. he had Specular map on.. that thing used to chew 10 FPS on my Dead M9750.. so i guess its totally killing the performance... wow thanks again, thats a Huge relief for me!! + Rep

How hard is 'No way' to understand? Just take away the 'way', and now you have a simple 'No'.

Edit: Don't mean to be rude, but even looking at the game's specs it should be obvious...invest in a mid-range gaming laptop however, and those will all be playable.

Okay, then, no need to get uptight about it.

But let me clarify what I didn't understand: The "10char" part? Whats that?

lol, and what you're trying to tell me is that NONE of those games will run... LOL?
I'm pretty sure that GTA:SA can EASILY run on a standard GMA 950 netbook (let alone a Nvidia Ion one) (I was just wondering at what settings I would be able to play on) So how about YOU only comment when you actually know what you're talking about! Wouldn't that be nice!

Ion is pretty new and is not intended for gaming so pretty much will everything be slow, especially that there is an Atom inside. Also the resolution is quite big considering the screen size.

That's a weak card for gaming, so don't expect too much. Min. reqs means that you'll be able to run it at all low settings.

No it won't. They'll make a good pair.

OK i gotta HP COMPAQ PRESARIO C500 that has Intel Core Duo @ 1.73GHz and 1gb ddr2 ram. it includes intel gma 950 and i also did a few tweaks and overclocks with it. it's a 15.6inch widescreen. i wondered if my laptop can handle cod4?
I overclocked my GMA 950 to 400MHz MAX and I wondered if it would be able to handle COD4 at highest settings and also i tweaked up my graphix driver (modded v1.2) and did some registry editing with the game i had problems with.
The driver let me modify the power plan settings that were set to low graphix and high battery power but i modified it near high graphix and low battery power since i dont use the battery much and i gotta fan. i always use my fan and take out the battery be4 i use my laptop. So, what do u think? would it handle COD4 at MAX graphix??
