I'm looking at th HP dv8t right now, here are the specs:

    - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
    - 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
    - 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)

What would I be able to get on the high end games like Crysis / GTA4? And can you upgrade the GPU in an HP without voiding the warranty?

You should be fine on medium settings and I dont think you can upgrade the gpu without voidin the warranty. You should just ask your reseller.

    Is that really true? :O

Also @ the guy who replied to my post Regarding COD4, will getting an HD4200 instead yield a little better performance? or its exactly an HD3200?

Don't know enough about the Mobility HD 4200.

As for the Mobility HD3200, I was basing it off this.

    http://optimitza.cat/news/2009/01/2...3-world-in-conflict-grid-far-cry-half-life-2/

As I recall, the 3450 is only a little faster than the 3200. If the 3450 is playable at those settings, I'm sure you can finagle something to run satisfactorily for you.

Ok this might sound stupid but I'm kinda paranoid.. no way the HD4200 will be slower than 3200 right? xD

Low to med settings. Lowering resolution will improve performance. No you can't upgrade GPU without voiding warranty. If you even can upgrade.

Your post was already answered. Look previous posts.

    Correct, the 4200 is faster.

Hmm... I just checked and apparently you can upgrade as long as you change it back to the original card if/when it needs servicing. I'm not sure if this is for all HP laptops or just the one I saw being talked about. Are you sure yours is true?

Well technically speaking you will be voiding the warranty, but if you do it and then change all back to the original condition(sticker) and they don't notice, that's a different story. Not all graphic cards can be upgraded.

Low setting and low resolution, something lower than 1280x800.

What do you think the maximum that a G51VX-X3A can run is? It gets ~1700 in 3DMark Vantage. I've been playing MW2 the last few days at 1280x960, high settings 2xAA and it runs smoothly. I picked up Crysis and it ran it pretty decently. I didn't get an exact number but it felt like ~30 FPS. I mean, people told me Notebooks weren't meant to play MMO's, but it was running World of Warcraft also very smoothly.

This laptop just seems to do gaming very well. It's the battery that drags it down. >< However, I just love the portability of a laptop even if I have to use the AC plug all the time.

^^^So what's your question? Max in what? And you should get higher score in Vantage. NV 260M gets from 4000 upwards.

KING19 - Thanks for your reply, I didn't know the 4570 was such a powerful GPU. Im quite excited. I guess it kicks my old 8600 GT .

King Canute won't stop the tides rolling in just standing on the beach, so why bother trying with the masses of users on online forums who don't know any better?

All of the answers regarding those games and their lack of betas have been well-answered in my opinion by just pointing out to Blizzard's track record for developing games for the LCM/median of gaming hardware.

No you're not a fool certainly, it's just as raz1337 said, you have a very good NB and you were asking about playing some old or not so graphic demanding games.

Don't worry about the fools and don't hesitate to ask, that's why this thread exists. I didn't mean to sound rude.

Just tried Crysis Warhead on my G51VX-X3A. It runs 1024x768 @ High settings or 1920x1200 @ minimum. That's okay, I guess. :D The weird thing is, I have to turn FSAA off in Crysis because it won't load with it on.

    Hey,

I am thinking about purchasing the new HP Mini 311 from Futureshop. It is on sale for 379.99 (CDN). I would be using it for homework and such, but also wondering if it could do a little bit of light gaming (thanks to the Nvidia Ion) Just wondering if it could play these games and at what SETTINGS... please.

    GAMES

    -Age of Empires 3
    -Left 4 Dead (1 + maybe 2?)
    -NFS: Pro Street
-Call Of Duty 2 + 4 (and maybe World at War?)
    -Far Cry (1)

    SPECS

    CPU- Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6Ghz
    GPU- Nvidia Ion LE
RAM- 1GB DDR3 (Will be upgrading to 2GB's, Will this help with games?)
    SCREEN- 11.6" w/ res of 1366 x 768
    OS- MS XP Home SP3

Thanks, any help (ASAP) would be greatly appreciated!
    ~Dylan~
