You can look at the GPU Guide for rankings...but it's pretty much one of the most powerful laptop graphics cards on the market. Only found in 17" notebooks, it will play any game out on high settings (as long as you have a decent amount of memory/modern cpu)

It's in the top two of most powerful GPU's for laptops.

    1. Nvidia 512mb 7950 GTX
    2. ATI X1900XT

The 7950GTX Go has been available since late last year, and it's still currently the best mobile GPU out there. I upgraded my E1705 with one, and it's definitely quite a performer - but it gets very, VERY hot even without overclocking. My average GPU temps during gaming is in the mid-80's. Notebook coolers don't make that much of a difference in temperatures either, from what I've noticed.

I think the best notebook cooling solution for this card is from Killernotebooks, with a whole bunch of copper heatsinks.

how did you get one of those in a E1705? Assuming you were able to mod the notebook or something?

In most cases you can't upgrade the graphics card in your computer. In some models, it's possible. The reason I emphasize possible is because if you don't have major experience, or have no idea what you're doing, it's extremely likely you'll damage your computer. It's just not worth it to void the warranty.

You'll save money if you buy a laptop like the Sager 5760 instead. It comes with a 7950GTX standard, and you can find it for as low as $2100 U.S.

I've been keeping my eye on the Sager 5760. I'm hoping it will drop in price in April/May.

Buying memory and hd from new egg and rest from RJTech to make the complete M570U is running around $2277 before tax with my configuration. If it gets to below $2000 after tax, then I'll think about buying it.

It's a relatively easy install. It just requires one slight mod, and that's the prying off of two small tabs on the chassis to get the second heat pipe to drop in. The E1705 bios works for it as well.

I ordered the 7950GTX through Dell Spare Parts (after some haggling and 45 mins of being on hold multiple times).

If you consider the cost of the E1705 + GTX, it still comes out to around $1000 cheaper than buying the M1710 model.

I ran 3dmark06 and I think I got around 5100, I didn't save it so I can't remember the exact score. I should run it again after defragging and eliminating some processes. I think my CPU (T2500) is sort of holding my score back.

Please refer to the GPU guide or one of the many reviews of laptops with the Go7900GTX/Go7950GTX we have.
