    Hey All,

I have been looking around for a Dell Studio xps 16. I want to use it for photo-editing, office-stuff like databases and some gaming.

My question is about this gaming part. i am defenitely not a hardcore gamer, but i would like to play 'The Hunter (www.thehunter.com)' in particularly. Does anyone play this game on their Dell Studio xps 16? I did ask a similar question for the Dell studio 15 (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=436880 ), but with 25 fps i don't think it is going to work. So i was thinking about going up the scale to a Dell studio XPS 16.

Is anyone willing to try the game on a studio XPS 16 and inform me about the framerates at the different setting levels? I would like to make shure it works on a decent level (preferably the high level ;), since it looks great at those settings then) before getting the laptop.

    Thanks

    Jan

Seeing as you've bumped twice, it doesn't look like you're going to get any responses here... I'm going to move you to the gaming section; hopefully they'll be more able to help.

What is your specs on the PC?

From what I can recall, TheHunter isnt a too demanding game.

    Thanks Commander!

@xTank Jones16x: My home Pc is too old to play. I was thinking about getting a Dell studio XPS 16 or maybe a Dell Studio 15.

The specs for the XPS 16 i looked at are:
    P8700 2,53 mhz
    4gb ddr3 ram
    ATI HD4670 1gb ddr3
    16 inch RGB-LED 1920X1080 (16:9) (should be great for photo-editing when calibrated)
    Windows 7 home premium 64-bit

The Dell studio 15 is similar but differs on the screen and the GPU
    Screen: 15.6 W-LED 1920X1080
    GPU:ATI HD4570 512MB

As i mentioned in the first post I would like to use the laptop for photo-editing, office-stuff like databases and some gaming. But the main reason of posting here is that i would like to play 'the hunter' on this laptop and i would like to make shure it works with a decent frame rate on decent settings.

    Thanks Jan

The 4670 in the XPS 16 is vastly superior to the 4570 in the studio 15.

    4570 has 80 steam processors (?? of DDR2)
    4670 has 320 stream processors (1GB of GDDR3)

I think the 4670 is usually a GDDR3 card versus GDDR2 in the 4570. The 4670 is clocked relatively high too, it's about as good as power friendly laptop graphics get, anything more and battery life goes downhill fast.

Never played the hunter, but I get nice framerates (40-50FPS at high details) at 1920x1080 in Modern Warfare 2.

    Thanks Jan

    Thanks Sean,

That is exactly the problem i have got, the money issue :(. Secondly the design of the G51J is too flashy in my opinion, since i want to use the notebook for my work (research). I don't think the flashy appearance it is appreciated by the people i work for.

Well it looks all right... not too colourful or anything.. the alternative is to get a Sager NP8760... its way more expensive... but looks more buisness-like... or if you want budget , get the dell... althought in the end it isn't so cheap...

I believe the modern warfare bench was from the xps 16. (can't speak for the person but an educated guess). We get a lot of the same questions on the boards. The answer is always the same. If you buy a laptop with a dedicated video card (not onboard) then you will 'most likely' be able to play games at some resolution and detail. The challenge is to make a budget, and get the most laptop you can for your budget. I would get the xps16 over the studio 17 with the 4570. Remember the HUNTER is what you want to play now. What about next month, or next year. The XPS will last a bit longer than the studio17 if you get the ATI 4670.

    Best Wishes and Good Luck,

    StevenX

The XPS 16 should be able to play most games with that set up at some kind of setting.
