You should be able to unless they have region restrictions for the service o_O

If the game doesnt require some sort of system like steam to be played then it'll work for sure. Otherwise some of those direct to drive places have those type of restrictions.

Is there no way to change that in-game?

If you're talking about Japanese games then i'm not sure (I mean Japan MMOs), Most of them are really restricted to Japan only such as Monster Hunter Frontier it only works if you play it in Japan Online.

On the bright side, it's pretty easy to trick them into thinking you're in Japan.
There is alot of bypass methods out there.

Yep, it's not quite like console games where there can be regional restrictions built into your machine.

The only thing is that you'll be getting higher latency connecting to game servers in Japan. If there's no servers for the game running anywhere otherwise than Japan you're pretty such SOL.

Non-online games will work for sure, no problem, but some online games, like Guild Wars have keys that are for the JPN only version and only let you connect to JPN servers.

and on some occasions, JPN servers block incoming IPS unless you are in Japan.
