Well jeez based on how much better computer graphics are than console graphics, especially last generation like the PS2, there shouldnt be any problem.
I mean , if my overclocked 7600 go can play Oblivion on high settings, PS2 games should be a breeze.

No you can't. The current PS2 emulators are very inefficient at converting the games written for the PS2 architecture into Intel PC architecture. Even if you have a Quad Xeon at 3Ghz with 16MB L2 Cache, you will have problems running the buggy emulator.

The base PS2 processor and ram are listed pretty low specs, but the fact it does not load the billions of processes in Windows won't bog it down.

It will work, I've played FFXIII on my notebook, just pretty laggy :p

I suppose you will be able to run it, but expect framerates of 10 or less. In other words, not really playable.

1- isn't all this a bit illegal? (about downloading the iso)

2- for the ps2 emulator, you're WAY better off with a good dual core processor.

3- It's more CPU dependant than video card dependant, but you still need something good. a x1600 should be ok for "playable" frame rates (maybe), but I wouldn't expect superb results. I tested my Final Fantasy X DVD with the recent ps2 emulator and it was very slow on my ATI X850XT. I upgraded to a core 2 duo processor and it's MUCH faster now, but still crap.

I'll still to playing Final Fantasy on my real Playstation thank you.

It's an iffy topic, in order to use the emulator, you have to have the BIOs which you can only get if you own a PS2.

The .iso's are almost the same, you can rip your own from your own game discs, but of course, there are other methods. NBR doesn't tolerate getting .iso's, but I'm lenient on the legal PS2 emulation side, as playing it while on the road is enjoyable :)

PCSX2 is pretty good. A friend of mine asked me to try it and I got over 60 frames per sec with AA on in a number of games.

If your notebook is a Core 2 Duo or any dual core for that matter and you have a decent video card, then yes.

My D820 with C2Duo 2GHz with NVS 120M has problems with it. So a x1400 or geforce 7400 wouldn't be good enough. A x1600 or higher might be good enough to get tolerable frame rates.

Keep in mind: It won't be as pretty as the "real thing" since the emulation is far from perfect. Sound will be messed up. Cut scenes... if you're lucky it'll play nice and you might get some sound, but nothing perfect.

so if you MUST play on the go, then maybe.

I'll stick to my PS2 and TV.

If "working" is perfect emulation like the real machine, then no, there's no working emulator.

If "working" is an emulator that has very good results and you can actually play the games, then PCSX2 is working quite well.

Why not use the existing PSone emulators out there - there is a brilliant one, but I forget the name, but the games look far better then they did on the psx and its pretty much 100% working, so I can play Panzer Front and Medal of Honor on my notebook instead of having to set up my ancient psx.

Plus it'll work on pretty much any semi-modern graphics card. :D

PS One emulation work brilliantly on almost anything! Mirage 2 GPUs run FF7/8/9 in all their antialiased glory! Havent got a PS2, so I can't try FFX yet :( Have to wait until I get a PS3, then I'll buy the back catalog.

The dude wants to play Tekken 5 (PS2 game); might be difficult to pull off on a PSOne emulator, no matter how good the software is. ;)

    But, but.... that's like 2 less Tekken's than Tekken 5! :p

Tekken 5 has 2/3rds more Tekkeny goodness in it. It's that much more Tekkentastic!

...yeah, I don't know where I'm going with this.

I was thinking to myself that i'll buy myself a of copy ff12 tomorrow to give it a shot on the ps2 emulator. Only that it hasn't even been released in the UK yet! Probably just as well because exams are coming up soon

If any you folks out there have managed to get ff12 working on your comp, then please post here and tell me your experiences.

It lags alot, well, to be honest, the first part, being the trailer of the attack was incredibly laggy. It took about an hour to buffer the 10 minute clip, so I kinda gave up after 30-40 minutes or so.

    I don't know about gameplay...

Bloody hell. So you tried with an original copy? Would copying the iso to HDD in anyway speed up the buffering process? I'm pretty desperate to play this game

Well if FFXII doesnt run good, try the good old FFTactics(PSX), quite a nice game to play.

Yea, but perhaps that my Pentium M + x700 couldn't handle it with the zillions of background processes that Windows is.

Perhaps you should try anyways, no real harm.

Actually, its just occurred to me that it doesn't matter what region the game is from does it? All i need to do is buy an American copy correct? March apparently is when Square-Enix will release this game in Europe and thats too far away. Either way, expect results beginning of Feb

Well, I'm not sure but your emulator has to reflect on the BIOs your PS2 has right now - so if its PAL, it may not work. I have no proof or data to confirm it, it is only an assumption.

There are PAL bios too, some lets u switch between them.
