The HDD in my notebook is partitioned into C: and D: (100gb each). Can installing a game onto D: (which isn't the system partition) cause problems with some games?
Thanks.

Hey, I have the same thing and nope no problems what so ever. In fact its better to install games on a different partition than the system one, this way the system runs a bit faster since its not fragmented all the time (so I have been told).
I do it for the reason above and I just like having my games in a different place than the system stuff such as programs and what not.
My C drive is for windows, any programs I install. D drive is for games, movies, work,....
and as those who pointed this out below, you can save data this way too if you decide to reformat, you just have to keep your registry entries for most games to work on the new OS, but movies and all that will be fine. -
Not a problem at all. It doesn't matter where you install it. Like blackbird said, it's good to have it on a separate partition from the OS, because in case you need to reinstall the OS, you can still keep your games intact w.o having to install them over again.

But yea, like they said, installing games on a different partioned space on the hard drive won't cause any problems. And could be beneficial. -
No problem. Been doing it for years. Just will have to reinstall games again if you reinstall OS only because of registry entries.

All my games are on my D drive right now and I don't have performance issues. However the registry entry wrinkle is something to remember if the OS has to be reinstalled.
Can installing a game on a partition of the hard drive cause problems?
