Ok, I looked at my core, it says "G94-655-B1" which is the NB9E-GS1 core.
    According to this:
    http://vr-zone.com/articles/Nvidia_55nm_Mobile_Graphics_Cards_Unveiled/5705.html

    It's 55nm.

GPUz is wrong, it says 65nm but it also doesn't know if it's a GS or GT so I don't trust it.

I would flash the 160m vBIOS right now if I could find a copy. Please somebody with a GT628 give me the vBIOS :)

EDIT: Also could somebody tell me what vRAM chips you have, I have samsung K4J10324QD-HC12.

At this point.... All I can say is good luck. :)

I may not be able to understand the reasoning behind your decision, or what drives you to relentlessly get your card's name changed, but I guess the effort is commendable in a way...

I gotta say that all this is hilarious too. :D

Thanks for the good luck :)
I found the GTS bios here:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/...urer=&model=9800M+GTS&interface=&memSize=1024

Looks like it's from a Gateway 7805u, I'm going to ask the users in the Gateway sub-forum what vRAM they have (I have samsung K4J10324QD-HC12). I believe that the vRAM must be the same or the flash will fail.

I'm still hoping for a 160m vBIOS though.

Anyway, I can get an OC of 640/983 with stock volts so it seems to be a good card.

    9800M GT not a GTS is a rebranded 8800GTX.

What's funny as well is that NBR says the 160M = 8800 GT and the 9800M GTS = 8800 GS, when they are exactly the same. They treat review benchmarks with different hardware as if it is directly comparable for way too much.

This is the point of the thread!

Not everyone is from NBR, they wont know the GTS 160 is the same as the 9800m GS. So Other people will think the 160m is better and there is the reason to flash.

But since I can't find the BIOS, I've pretty much given up.

I've just undervolted my card to 0.95V and it overclocks better
It used to max out at 640mhz core, now I can get 700mhz

    lol, I was being sarcastic.

Anyways, I think as crazy as it sounds for him to be attempting this it would be intersting to see the outcome. Who cars about the title; just flash to the same clocks and change the 9800M GS name in your signature to the GTS 160M.

That's weird, it doesn't make sense that you can overclock better with lower voltage, something smells fishy here, I think you should stop pushing your luck and stick with the default clock/voltage for a while for your own good.

Yes that is weird. I think it's because when you undervolt the GPU is cooler and that makes it more stable.

Anyway, right not I'm undervolted and underclocked (0.95V, 450mhz/600mhz) because I don't like my GPU getting hot.

I'm going to replace the thermal pads on the vRAM with copper and I will copper mod the heatsink, I want my max temp to be 70C (right now it's about 82C max temp).

No, it doesn't. You know why? The Lotus(?) will still be drivable in 7 days time.

Clearly you aren't up to speed on your period types, Shadow. That was clearly a type-3 period, which signifies a mild dry tone. :p

Just out of interest, do you actually whip out your laptop, and start -measuring instead of playing games? Tell you what, I'll send you an AW sticker in the mail - then all the other kids will think you're k3wl.

The second line shows that it was fixed, which I believe should be easy to do if the notebook will boot with a bad card.

I already practiced blind flashing (put paper on the screen so I wouldn't see it).

But as I said before, I give up. It's too hard to get the BIOS, nobody wants to share...

Scratch that, I still need some sleep. Waking up at six every morning is not nice.

    hey guys
i am trying to undervolt my gpu by flashing the vbios.
The only problem is that i couldn't reach the dos command prompt.

Any idea? what is the difference between fat, fat 32 and ntfs?
I pressed ESC at bootup but it only gives me the option to boot from hdd and cd drive.

Just wanted to stop in and say that the 9800M GS is 65nm.
    The GTS 160M is not.

To mrcrysis, you need to create a bootable flash drive. If you already have one, you need change the boot order, so the comp see the drive first..

    Here is my exact chip:
    G94-655-B1

From what google told me, it's 55nm not 65.

hey i am using the asus g60vx

i already referred to the g51 optimization thread.
I used the hp utility to make my usb bootable.
is it possible to use a disc to flash?
Also, do i choose fat, fat32 or ntfs?

fat or fat32 are both good, I used fat32.

I have only seen the flash done with a USB or a floppy. You could probably use a CD or DVD, but I don't know exactly how.
