Hello and thanks for reading everyone. I have a MSI GT60 0ne-220us that came with the i7 3610QM processor and the 4gb version of the GTX 680m gpu. My 680m card is now dead and I am unsure if I have to replace it with the same card or can I upgrade to a newer card (preferably 980m if possible)? I asked msi forums and yahoo answers but they were no help at all. I will appreciate any info you guys can gIve me and sorry if this is a really noob question. Thanks again for reading

If it is an MXM 3.0b, why not? I am hoping the GPU isn't soldered on that model?

I'm not to sure how to tell if the card slot is an mxm3.0b but I do know that the gpu does slide out and it's not soldered to the Board. I purchased it new back in 2012 when the 680m was the best they had to offer at the time. I wasn't sure if the gpu, motherboard or cpu went bad so I sent for repair and got told my card went out. They quoted me $700 for the card and repair which I think is too high so I want to ebay the item myself to repair. Does it sound like my MSI GT60 supports mxm3.0b cards from the details I've listed?

Yeah it is. Doesn't necessarily mean it's upgradable though, especially to something as new as a 980M. However, you can for sure replace it with an identical 680M card.

Ok and Thanks for your reply. I just checked the 680m out on eBay and you're right, it is a mxm3.0b card. Would you suggest replacing it with the same card or maybe try something that might be compatible like an 700 or 800 series card? I would contact msi but I hear their tech support is garbage.

Try the MSI forum.. I know people with 780M's in their GT60 are able to upgrade to 970M/980M so it might be possible.. Contact MSI support too..
