I am in a dilemma. I need a new laptop, and I want to get a big, powerful laptop. The problem is I play too many video games, and I am on the go so much that I need a small, lightweight one. Also, I can't afford two laptops or a desktop and a laptop, or a netbook and a laptop. So I have to pick between portability and graphics power. If you guys could help me, I will be indebted to you all.

i would start by decribing some of the games u like to play to give an idea of what sort of gfx power you actualy need.

Or better yet fill out the faq so we know your budget, usage, likes, dislikes.
-
Well you can't have both (well you can but that particular laptop is expensive and only available in Germany AFAIK).
The thing about graphics power is that the amount u need scales linearly with the size and resolution of your screen. A common 9300m GS can play games reasonably well at 12" 1200*800 and still probably look as good as a 9800m GT powering a 17" 1900*1200 screen.
The question is do you want to just be able to play the games or do further want to play them at high resolution/detail? -
Yeah a clear list of games would help.
And as the above poster said, you can't have power and portability in a same package. We just don't have the technology yet to implement the power of higher end graphics cards in a small chassis like 14.1" or lower(which is considered the "small and lightweight" category).
As it stands, you have to pick between power and mobility. IMO, I've learned that gaming on a laptop isn't the best option for me and Ive found the idea of "gaming on the go" is something I could live without and I could wait till I got home to game if I wanted to. -

i can't afford to buy a laptop and a desktop.
also, I am playing civ IV right now. and I want to play empire: total war when it comes out -
id suggest writing down all the games u want to play in 2009,
try to get a idea of what kind of speed youll need to be able to play them at
minimum specs just wont cut it for gaming ,sure it might play but in very low quality ,that takes away the experience for many
running vista youll want 4 gigs of ram
save up money and do research
just suggestions -
Filling out the faq as previously suggested would also let people know how much you are willing to spend and other needs (resolution, HDD space, etc)
My personal suggestion would be one of ASUS's 14.1" models with a 9650m GT, as that gives a good amount of juice while remaining fairly portable.
Can someone convince me to pick a laptop....
