I have the dv1000 and it can play WoW after making some adjustments. I have to put all the video settings on low and play in the lowest resolution (800 x 600 i believe) and put it in windowed mode. After all that It runs smooth. I haven't been in any cities with tons of people yet though ( i just started .. currently have a lvl 10 mage ). My specs : 1.86 ghz, 512 mb ram, 80 gb 5400 rpm hdd. I never intended to game on this notebook anyway since I have an i9300 but I was surprised it ran WoW at all. I will try to run it in full screen mode and see how it plays later...

    What's your budget?

I would definitely avoid the GMA900 if you plan to do any sort of 3D.

I'd definitely check out the Compaq V4000t with the 128MB X700. The X700 is four times as powerful as the X200M. You'll be able to play WoW at the highest settings.

It starts at $849 on www.HPShopping.com. I recommend getting the 5400RPM hard drive for best performance. By upgrading the memory aftermarket, you can save yourself some money. ;)

    Cheers

I would say go with somthing better then the INtel GMA 900. Go with an HP with a X600. For around $1000-$1300 you can get quite a nice config. Look at the dv4000 . Also, you should fill out the FAQ, so we know what size screen you want, and other features you want in your new notebok.

dont worry about the processor, just get a laptop that has decent graphics.

for your budget i'd recommend getting a laptop with a radeon x600 or x700 with 128mb Minimum

The laptop I got in my signature was about $1200 (I upgraded the HDD myself).

It should play WoW at near highest settings with no problems.

I recently purchased an MSI 1029 from Cyber Power, I took there Xplorer X64 9800 model and tuned some of the setting down and it was cheaper than changing the 9700 to be more powerful, go figure.

Anyway I spent a total of $1245 on the machine, and it runs WoW beautifully. I get upwards of 35 fps in orgrimarr all the time, and even the most frantic AV battles come through smooth as silk. Make sure you get the 1 gig of ram though, my desktop only has 512 and has a lot of problems keeping up.

The general consensus is that the GMA 900 does not perform adequately for gaming; if games are important for you, you should not get a computer that uses it.

The shared memory would lead me to believe that it would not run WoW, especially since that game eats RAM like I eat pringles.

You can try the HP dv5000z as an alternative to the ze2000z, but I would check out the Compaq V4000t if you are going to go with a 15.4".

As in, the video card does not have its own memory. Therefore, it must share it with the system.

So if the card has 128 megs of shared video memory it takes 128 megs of RAM from the system memory, decreasing your system memory by 128 megs. Also, since the memry has to be accessed over the BUS, its going to be slower than dedicated memory.

If a GPU uses only shared memory, it will not be a great performer.

There is no replacement for dedicated memory. You should have a dedicated card if you are going to play games.

From my experience, even a notebookwith a dedicated 64 MB card can still have some performance issues with WoW. I have a Dell 600M that I'm going to be replacing to get better performance.

I can play WoW at fairly low settings, but even then it's still somewhat slow. Integrated graphics may have improved but I wouldn't touch em yet...
