i've got a sony vaio (vpcea16fa) (similar model would be EB models and ea16fg)

    i5 520m 2.4ghz up to 2.93 with turbo boost
    Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1gb (core/shader @450 MHZ, memory speed 800mhz)
    4gb RAM
    Win7 64bit
    Max screen resolution is 1366x768

i'm not a hardcore gamer when it comes to single player graphics intensive games like Crysis or Dirt 1/2, i can live with those on medium.

but the reason i really bought this laptop was because i believed it would run guild wars 2 on High settings which i really want (with some medium.....i'm flexible).

so what are the best setting i will probably be able to run GW2 with this laptop?
and will this laptop be equivalent to mid-range in the next 2 or 3 years??

Not sure about high settings but medium settings probably will work just fine ._.

At the rate technology is advancing, the laptop would probably be on the equivalent of the low-end of the mid-range laptops after 3 years :p

i'm also quite concerned about the fps at mid, seems like it's gonna be a lag fest in crowded areas

Well you'll have to wait until they release a proper system requirements and estimate how it'll do from there. You can also use the first guild war as a baseline and then just estimate probably a 20-50% fps drop at most from graphics improvement ._. For now, it's just plain estimating since the official specifications aren't out yet.

you have a low native resolution, that should survive longer, but the rating of your gpu is only on midstream, and with the type of games in 2011 are gpu demanding, but you can get a big help because you play in a lower native resolution imo.

yea but as i said, regarding single player games i'm not a die hard graphics humper (or w/e).

i'm very content playing 2011 games on medium or abit less.

what matters the most is guild wars 2, and since it's an mmo and Anet are dedicated to "make a game that will run and look beautiful on mid-range pc's", so i was kinda hoping for more than just medium......since i Am a die hard guild wars fan.

Using GW as a baseline is way out to left field. ArenaNet has said numerous times on how different the engine is for GW2, even if it is based off GWs original engine.

Exactly. Resolution plays a huge factor in terms of gaming performance and visual quality. Always best to play at native with some toned down eye candy then lower resolution with scaled up eye candy IMO.

I suspect PAX Boston will shed a bit more light on the requirements for the game. By that I don't mean ArenaNet letting out the min and recommended list, but by the booths running the game. Alienware and Nvidia will both be showcasing the game, and someone will most likely ask the booth employees what's inside the cases, so the ball park figures should spring up soon enough.

Been waiting for this game for awhile myself, and I'm confident my newly purchased 3820TG, with the GPU overclocked to 775/1000 should handle GW2 fine.
