As u know torrent is very illegal. almost everything in torrent is illegal.
Its like worst than Napster when it got sued. i know alot of people use torrent by the counts of downloads and seedings. i was wondering if you can do to jail for downloading torrent and etc. has anyone went to jail before for using torrent?

you can technically yes, but usually theres too many people out there to catch - so the popo usually go for people who upload and download CRAP tons

You definitely won't go to jail for downloading, or even seeding stuff. If you're the one actually ripping DVDs and creating the torrents in the first place then maybe, but still doubtful.

aXXo probably hasn't been caught because he's probably using anonymous proxies or something, or maybe even resides in a country where ripping/sharing dvds isn't illegal.

Torrents are taking a legal side now. In Canada it is not illegal to download copyrighted er... stuff but it is illegal to upload it

torrents are not illegal. there are many people who use torrents for legitimate reasons. using torrents to download copyrighted material is illegal. its best to stay away from downloading copyrighted stuff. its not worth the risk.

Torrents are not inherently illegal. There are many legitimate uses for torrents (downloading any large file, like a Linux ISO, an HD video game trailer, or an open source or freeware program).

Downloading copyrighted content however, is very illegal. You can't go to jail (it's a civil offense, not a criminal one), but you can get sued (and many people already have) by the RIAA or MPAA for copyright violations.

Also, it's probably not a good idea to talk about that here. The Forum Rules have a strict no-tolerance policy on discussion of illegal downloading.

You'd most likely get in trouble if you're the one ripping and uploading, because that scares the distributors.

Well, the process of torrenting is not illegal but the file content is. Many video game companies have started using programs based on bit torrent to share large files like patches.

And yes, it's possible to get caught. All they have to do is contact the ISP companies and on whim they can get the bandwidth logs, etc.

Old school! if you have to ask! I am so mad at the recording industry! So here it goes! Commen sense don't share files! It is not the down loaders they go after (way too many) people who share files. Get it!

    if they arrest downloaders,

half the country (and half the cops) would be in jail

though they may make it a fine :(

EDIT: what is this thread doing in gaming and gpu? shouldn't it be OT?

Just someone who has been uploading tons of good quality dvd rips on major torrent sites lately.

    http://torrentfreak.com/interview-axxo-the-most-popular-dvd-ripper-on-bittorrent/
edit: i just found out the interview on that site is fake, but whatever, the info at the start is fine.

Our Ripper, who art on mininova,
    aXXo be thy name.
    Thy torrents come.
    Seeding will be done,
Here as it was on suprnova.
Give us this day our latest rips.
    And forgive us our leeching,
As we forgive those that leech from us.
    And lead us not on to private trackers;
But deliver us from the MPAA:
For thine is the ripping, the seeding, and the glory,
    For ever and ever.

    Amen…
