I have been trying to overclock my 8600m GS on WIN XP for ages now.

I was able to get it to work once with 101.19 drivers, but since updating to newer ones it has not worked.
I tried going back to the 101.19 drivers but they now don't let me overclock.

It has to be some kind of software problem that isn't allowing the card to overclock.

I have tried putting on coolbits i have tried unintalling the drivers and then running driverclearner.

    just nothing seems to work.

I don't really want to mess around at the bios level.

Can anyone shed some light as to why these drivers have stoped letting me O/C.

What is your core and mem clock @ right now?

I'm using the 158.45 drivers and I can overclock fine with riva tuner/ntune (I'm running vista 32-bit tho)

    Core is 500/400.

It seems that ppl don't have to many problems oc'ing in Vista.

It seems to be a problem with XP drivers.
Surely there has to me some kind of solution out there for this.

Problem is, usually laptop GPU's VBIOS is part of the Bios.

It's (mostly) for desktop GPU's. What you do is you change the bios so that the default clocks are changed.

Can't overclock either ever since I updated to forceware 162.18. I tried using Driver Cleaner Pro and reinstalling my old 92.91 drivers and I still couldn't overclock.

Bah... I miss using my 92.91 drivers and overclocking. So now I just decided to reinstall again the 162.18 since I couldn't overclock anymore with 92.91.

I also miss the classic control panel. Apparently, I can't use the classic control panel with the 162.18 drivers. NTune is useless too.

BTW, does anybody know how to detect if a game uses OpenGL or Direct3D?

I have the same issue. I was able to overclock just fine using 158.10 from laptopvideo2go. I stupidly uninstalled them, then installed newer drivers. Once I realized I couldn't overclock, I switched back to 158.10 and it never worked again.

I am wondering if it's just drivers, since it seems really inconsistent. I am sticking with 163.44 XTreme-G drivers for now, since they give me a consistent 3-5 FPS speed over 158.10 did without overclocking.
