That card the 8600M GT came on my notebook the Dell Inspiron 1520. Now It has some problems with overheating and originally it came with vista. What I did is i partitioned the hard drive made it 40% XP and 60% Vista.

Getting drivers for the card for vista all I have to do is check the dell website. But vista + games = lag... Even with the 4 gigs of ram on this machine. There for I am gaming on the XP side of things. I cant seem to find new graphic drivers for my card though. I found 8600GT Drivers, (Desktop version) I doubt they will work on the 8600M GT card (laptop version). So if some one could help me find the drivers windows xp for this card that would be awesome.

Also I have a question about my power options when I game on this laptop. When I was using vista it very easily showed me my power options. Set it to High performance, Balance or Power saver...well I need to know how to do that on windows xp. I have not seen any options to set this machine on High performance in Windows xp yet. And I assume that is part of the reason why I lag a bit with games as simple as Sword of the new world, and Final Fantasy XI. If some one could tell me how to set my power options to high performance in Windows XP That would be awesome, Thanks ^^

Laptopvideo2go ones require you install using a modified inf, while the nvidia ones are offical release. If you want to get the most out of the card install the Dox drivers on Laptopvideo2go, his latest release is 182.46, beware though some people report increased temps using these, personally i have not and find them very stable.

    Take your pick

XP doesn't the power profiles like Vista... What you can do is right click on the desktop, properties, scrren saver, the thing next to the energy star(forgot what it was) and the desktop profile.

Also is it normal fo rmy 1520 to sometimes get so hot near the metal vent when im gaming that If i touch the vent for a few seconds I burn my finger?

The Nvidia drivers are for all GeForce cards they say they cover and this does include the 8600M GT.

Did you try these Vista drivers? It's for the Vostro 1500 with the 86oomGT card. The release date was 1/8/09. Dell Version: 179.24
