    Hey everyone,
I just got Bioshock and installed it and everything went fine. I can get the splash screen to appear and I can also choose "new game". A small sequence with a guy sitting in a chair in a plane starts up and then the Bioshock symbol fades into the screen. After that the screen goes black and nothing ever happens again. I've waited like 10 minutes just to see if anything ever happens, nope, nothing. If I click the screen a couple times the blackness goes away and I'm back at the desktop, that's it. So what's going on???

I'm running an Asus G2S with a 8600GT on Vista with 2GB of RAM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the 163.44 ones are tailored for bioshock.

additionally, disabling the tablet software in vista helps the game a lot.

control panel - programs - turn windows features on or off - uncheck the "tablet pc optional components"

with this, I have not had any more loading, crashing, or DX10 fullscreen problems at all :D

Stay in DX10.... if you have it available it is much better to use on an 8x00 model.

    Drivers to 163.44

Update DX to august refresh (MS site)

Get the following hotfixes (MS site) to fix Vista:
    Compatibility fixes - KB938194
    Memory - KB940105
    Performance - KB938979

ok guys... this is getting annoying. i have done everything that all of you have suggested (except turning DX10 off, i dont really care whether it'll work in DX9 unless that's my very last and only choice) and the exact same problem still occurs. Why on earth does the game run for about 10 seconds and then quit???

ok, forcing dx9 allows the game to play for a little longer, but it still ends up doing the same thing. i've only tried it once on dx9 though... maybe it wont happen again. still, i kinda wanted to play it with dx10, is there no way? shouldn't it be relatively simple? after all, it is in fact how the game is meant to be played. it's not like there should be compatibility issues...

Taffy55, I had the SAME exact problem. Once I upgraded to the 163.44 drivers, Bioshock started working. I highly suggest that you remove all your Nvidia stuff already installed, and try re-installing the 163.44 drivers located on http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Mine was crashing too right after the dude smoking a cigarette faded out.
