I have an 8400m GS and I like to force the Standard2D profile when I connect to my external display to keep things nice and cool. I've been using it without any problems until today. For some reason, now I cannot select the native resolution of 1680x1050 anymore natively in Windows. If I go to the Nvidia control panel, from there I can choose 1680x1050, but only with 16-bit color.
I tried changing the profile from Standard2D to LowPower3D and I rebooted and I was able to select 1680x1050 @ 32-bit. It seems like Windows/Nvidia won't allow me to run 1680x1050 @ 32-bit unless I am in one of the 3D profiles.
It used to run fine without any hiccups so I don't know what's going on. From time to time I would have to disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable to get it right, but nothing more than that.
Anyone have any ideas? I've erased drivers, reinstalled different drivers (3), and even uninstalled RivaTuner to no avail. I would appreciate any help as I would really like to run my external monitor at Standard2D like I used to to keep things nice and cool. Thanks.
Edit:
I just noticed something, in my Screen Resolution panel it now says "orientation" where before it never did. I don't know if it's a Windows thing maybe? Because this option never was there before. Maybe somehow they're intertwined? I checked my updates but the only thing that was updated recently is IE8 and Silverlight.

Have you updated your drivers recently?
