anyone who lives in canada (ontario, toronto) know any good trustworthy retailers that sell gaming laptops (e.g: asus g1) around here? to be more specific, im looking for retailers that sell laptops for <2000$ and laptops such as the asus g1 or any others that are equipped with a 8600 gt ddr3 or better under that price tag.
i would prefer to see the laptop myself at first before buying, and preferrably they have a warranty.

    thanks.

NCIX.com (based in Vancouver) is a trusted, reputable reseller of ASUS notebooks in Canada.

Since you are in, or near Toronto, there are quite a few stores along College and Spadina(west of it) with the G1s, but you'll need to ask beforehand. In addition, there are a handful in the GTA and in Markham. Check the reseller list in the ASUS FAQ in the ASUS sticky if you are looking for the G1s specifically.

Canadian retailers are so much more expensive for gaming notebooks it's not really worth it, at least as far as Clevo laptops go. Buying a laptop in the States, adding to that shipping, duties/customs and taxes, it still comes out a few hundred dollars cheaper. I don't understand why the prices are set so much higher up here.

I'd have looked into Eurocom if I knew they were local boys .. I just assumed they were in Europe due to the name. I ordered a Sager fro XoticPC .. highly recommended! (But the GST on import hurts badly.)

they would be 14%, no duty on laptops becuase it assembled in NA, it might end up being cheaper anyways...its the same as buying from canada for prices pretty much u still get taxed 14%(ontario anyways) and still have to pay for shipping.

or wait...do you just have to pay GST when you import? Im not sure

Im going to recommend buying from ncix.com, they are very reputable. Also since they are located in B.C. you avoid paying ON provincial sales tax (so you'll only pay 7% tax instead of 14%)

i would reccomend them for parts and desktops only, they do not have much of a selection for laptops, just the c90 is the only customizable one i can find.

I love NCIX. We get so ripped on taxes, I buy everything from there (except my laptop) to save on the PST.

I think that for Quebec PST doesn't exist (only GST), which would make 6% in taxes. That would be awesome.

    is $2259.00 + $154.20 (highest shipping, lower options available) + $316.26 (14% taxes) = $2729.46 total.

Same laptop at Eurocom is over $3000 prior to shipping and taxes. You even have to pay extra for things that should be included in the laptop's base price like wireless, bluetooth and the webcam. It's like that at all the Canadian resellers. It's almost criminal.

Contact Eurocom and see if they have any demo models for sale. I got a D900C from them with a Q6600 and 7950GTX sans OS for $2500 Canadian.

I paid just GST from XoticPC to me in Ontario; couple bills (ouch!)

Pricing above seems pretty accurate -- worked out to $2500 or something, all told. Yay for strong CDN dollar :)

Would anyone be familiar with these stores? They have the best Canadian prices on the ASUS G1S-B1 and am wondering if they're any good...
    1Click2Computers
    A-Power Computer
    CanadaComputers
    PC Village

I found them using google and then shopbot.ca.
These prices are better or equal to most the US prices I've seen, would this be a result of the exchange rate now?

Chances are I'll still go with a place like GenTech because they offer a free RAM upgrade, and I don't see any Canadian sites offering that. I'll be stuck adding on 14% taxes no matter where I buy from, so I might as well go with them, right?

CanadaComputers is a great store...they have several branches and all of the stores are very well laid out ( with the one exception at PacificMall - too cramped) . The ones I have been to had the G1S and G2S usually on display. The staff is pretty helpful too and their prices are usually better than the other stores you listed. I bought my 200gb Hitachi 7k200 drive from them for CAN$210.

Another good store for G1S-B1 is www.infonec.com. They have pretty decent prices too. They have several branches all over the GTA but the main store is in Markham and its nice too, not sure if they have the G1S on display. But I would call ahead.

You may want to wait a few weeks. The Dell XPS M1530 has been delayed a few times now and Im gonna bet is released in December. My personal belief is that its delays are to fit an appropriate gaming card inside which would again throw yet another XPS system at the top of the pile for its size, weight and specifications. Lets wait and see.
