I recently purchased an HP dv6t Quad Edition with a 1GB Radeon HD 7470M graphics card. I was trying to update the driver so I went to the AMD website, and tried to find the appropriate drivers for my card. I selected Notebook Graphics, Radeon HD Series but in the Product Model section I could only go up to the Radeon HD 6xxxM Series, even though mine starts with '7'. A search on the website did not give any finds for 7470. What is going on here? Why can't I find this card on AMD's own site?

    Thank you.

Because the chip is too "new" (its a rebrand) so updated ones will not be out yet.

I tried to download the auto detect tool and I was given an error message and could not proceed any further. So much for that. It looks like HP has the driver for my card, which I downloaded and seems to be the same that I have installed.

It is rather strange that the manufacturer himself doesn't have any data on the card on its own website. It is like it doesn't exist.

Well it's not really a gaming chip and its just a rebrand so they just need a bit to update.

it's not weird sometimes AMD sucks at driver support. they seam to forget certain gpu's. that's what I hate most about AMD.

I don't know, Nvidia don't have any GT640m and upward W7 drivers, only GT635m and lower, so it`s not only AMD.

Isn't your model an Intel switchable graphics with AMD?
If it is, then it isn't supported by AMD as stated in their release notes in their drivers.

^ yes, but you still can update the AMD portion of the Intel+AMD switchable graphics drivers. you just need to download the mobility drivers from AMD, not the regular desktop ones.

In response to Falco's question, yes the laptop has switchable graphics, perhaps similar to Nvidia's Optimus. I had to go in the BIOS and set the GPU to 'fixed' so I could take advantage of the dedicated card while adjusting settings in Windows (the Intel was always overriding the AMD settings, it was getting frustrating).

So does that mean that I cannot expect an update from AMD?

There are no 7970M drivers either. We just have to be patient and wait till AMD do release some... even Nvidia haven't released any drivers for their 675M. The wait is longer than I thought it would be :(

You're not going to get any support from AMD until they support them.

However, you can get some really limited unofficial support from modding communities, which your mileage can vary.
For example, you might end up sacrificing synced color settings or lost of brightness controls via buttons.
