I have a Dell latitude D830 with the Nvidia Quattro NVS 140 256mb video card and when I try to install Fear Combat, it always ends with a fatal error message with no other details. Also when I try to install the video card driver for my card from Nvidia, it says that it does not detect a compatible video card even though I downloaded the right driver.

P.S. I just wanted to upgrade the driver that came preinstalled with the system.

to upgrade the drivers you need to use a moddified .inf file since the one's that come with drivers only work for Desktop cards.
If you download the driver @ laptopvideo2go.com you will also see a link for the moddified INF next to the link to the driver. -
yeah replace the .inf file in the extraction folder with the modified .inf and it will let you install it

Thanks for the quick replies. I downloaded the driver without a hitch but fear combat will still not install. The install freezes when it is installing "Fear_7.Arch00" and it says that the setup has to shut down.

Maybe you could redownload it?

If the install is failing then it's not the video card that is the problem. Try re-downloading as posted.

I downloaded the install again and it worked so the problem was indeed the corrupted install file. Thanks for your responses.

I had the same issue - and once I have got the working install file - i copied it a few times on different volumes and dvds. It is a shame that in 21st century these things happen. CRC anyone? Multiple files? Hm. Sometimes rapidshare 100MB limit files and multiple rars seem much better solution.
Cheers,
Ivan
