I am not very tech savvy so i will try and explain my situation as best as possible.

My Alienware M17 all of sudden stopped running games. Every time I launch a game, I'm greeted with a different error. "Failed to create D3D surface for Window. No GPU supporting D3D10_FEATURE_9_1 or higher was found." or "Your video card does not support alpha blending."

I also noticed that when i run dxdiag, under the display tab, all directx features are not available. Also, my laptop is surprisingly much cooler as it seems the fan and video card are not running.

i have tried various restore points but none have cured my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    My specs:
    Alienware M17r4
    16GB RAM
AMD Radeon 7970M (catalyst version 14.4)
    i7
    Windows 7

Are you somehow running in power saver mode or double check your settings make sure global settings aren't for using the integrated GPU or the dedicated GPU isn't turned off for some reason in BIOS, etc.

Could it be that the memory card is on toast? If your video card is dead, the result would be a laggy PC, game crashing and black screen. You can also see colored stripes on screen and you can't play 1080p videos.
