    Hey guys,

my sony vaio laptop (VPCCW26FX) won't let me play battlefield 3 because I have to update the NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 330M driver to 285.38

I downloaded the 285.38 BF3 Driver but I cant install it because it does not recognize my graphics card?

    Hey, Try this:

    1) Make a System Restore (back up) : System Restore and Driver Rollback Instructions

    2) Once you created the Restore Point, Download This File : Graphics Driver - Verde 285.62 Driver - GeForce (I have checked that it will work with your GT 330M. ;) )

    3) Once Driver Installation Files are downloaded : Uninstall your Graphics Drivers from Device Manager* (if you have SLi, please uninstall both drivers) Your Screen will look like a mess* for now.

    3) Run The Application to Install the Drivers (Downloaded file), chose the Recommended Option within (Basically Next all the way and wait :p)

    Vola~ You're Done!! ;)

dont forget you might have to run driver cleaner/driver sweeper/cc cleaner in safe mode even if using the nvidia auto updater.
there are always files left behind in the registry that can conflict with the latest driver.

The Sony Vaio CW is not supported by the Nvidia Verde driver. So these steps won't do any good.

just in case you need a walkthroug:

    Download driver sweeper here:
    Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

these are great programs which will delete all traces of drivers as sometimes when you uninstall them they leave behind files which can cause issues when you come to install new drivers. We’ll use this in a minute

Download the latest drivers for your operating system 32/64bit > NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search

Extract/ copy the files to a temporary directory such as c:\temp or i save it to my desktop.

Go to the control panel > program and features > scroll down the list and find NVIDIA > then select NVIDIA and click uninstall. It will ask if you want to restart the system.. click yes

Press F8 on startup and go into windows in safe mode.

Run driver cleaner or driver sweeper and select NVIDIA drivers.. then clean.

Go to the control panel > system> device manager > graphics card. Right click on any present and click uninstall

Restart the system and go into windows normally. Install the NVIDIA drivers listed above which you put into a temporary folder

Restart the system.. and fingers crossed all should be well!

Thanks SacredDreams, I will definately give it a try.

e-support from Sony wasn't very helpful because they dont approve any nvidia driver updates if its not on their website.

The modded INF in my guide supports your GPU. Did you even read my previous post?

No need for this. The OP's GPU is not supported by the Nvidia driver.

I did take a glimpse at your guide but I was baffled due to the complexity of it. What the hell is a clean install?! The most I do with my computer is play games and watch , so you must understand. :D

I will give it a try once I have time.

    Thanks!

By clean install, its meant to remove all the old files and clean windows registry before installing a new driver set.
This helps into killing probable issues such instability , driver crashes etc etc.
Ive written the guide for this purpose, nvidia offers a clean install method, but unfortunately that removes only registry settings, leaving all the old files in the limbo, causing more harm than good.

Thats why is adviced to run driver sweeper in safe mode, in normal mode most of the files are locked by the os for various reasons.

LOL...He didn't mean for you to follow all of those steps, only the nVidia install method below, as he had made a custom .fnf for Vaio N/B's:

    4. Nvidia Verde 285.62 WHQL driver (Vaio FZ, AR, AW & CW) :

    32-bit driver: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...ional-whql.exe
    64-bit driver: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...ional-whql.exe

Extract the downloaded driver using 7-zip/ Unextract. Now download the attached "Nvidia 28X.XX" zip file (see end of the guide), and extract the appropriate 32/ 64-bit "nvszc" inf file. Copy/ replace the "nvszc" inf file into "Display.Driver" folder of the extracted driver package. Disable any Antivirus software, and run the "setup" in the driver pack. In the Nvidia install screen, choose "Custom Install", uncheck "Nvidia Update", 3D Vision components, check "Physx system software" if you want Physx, HD Audio if you have Nvidia audio device, check "Perform Clean install", and click next to continue. Ignore the Windows security warning to finish installing the driver, and restart as prompted.

The custom .inf is in here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...clean-install-guide-vaio-fz-nvidia-285.62.zip

Extract the file with 7-zip or other and replace the appropriate file in the driver package with this file then follow his other directions above.

** Different people have different opinions, but there should really be no need to do the old fashioned "clean install" method some others have suggested, as the newer driver packages like this one will perform that step adequately for you if you choose the option like coolguy suggests.
