So I was watching Lord of the Rings a few days ago and thought it would be awesome to play an FPS based around defending or invading a castle, just like the movie.

So are there any games with gameplay that is similar to Battlefield in terms of different classes (sword, archer, etc.) and maybe even being a general that sets up defenses or something?

Age of Chivalry and Pirates, Vikings & Knights II are both free on Steam and pretty wicked fun.

Age of Chivalry especially, since it has the helms deep level in there and you get to choose from many different classes. Good times I had defending and invading Helms Deep...

Ha this is funny.... back in the day I was on a mod team for BF1942, we created a modification based on LOTRO it had 2 levels, Helms Deep and Pelanor Fields. It was actually pretty decent considering we all were working on it for fun and weren't that into it, we had swords bows/arrows/ horses even. we released it and I think for about a week we had a 24 person server full, then interest died out. Was fun though, myself and the other "devs" continued to mess around in our levels for a few months before we got bored too - retrospectively it could have been really great if we were more talented :)

I was a moddeler w/ 3dsmax 06, made the gondorian long sword models (3 or 4 versions) 2 broad swords, shields and the schimtar model. Also made a bow and arrow model and some static object models for Helms. Also did the skinning of the same weapons/items. Good times.

Actually I kind of want to get back into modeling now... hmm must start thread.

I just installed Age of chivalry and played it. I think its amazing. I think the combat is sort of like mount and blade + TF2. But i just have this 1 problem thats keep bugging me. I keep crashing to my desktop and a error message comes up. Something about memory cannot be read.(HL2.exe) btw i have TF2. and is this game different if i buy a half life 2 and download it?? And my system's fine for this game(my desktop in sig). tried reinstalling too. Anyone?

Just tried this game out and really enjoyed it, though it is very buggy. Just about everytime I try to do anything but actually play the game, (change options, check servers, etc.) it crashed to the desktop. Fun to play though.
