Anyone else experience this problem? Whatever I do i CAN NOT get Powerplay to work on my Acer 8204 with Cat 6.3 CCC. I just forgot I posted this once before, but despite following the advice I received then, I still am having the same issues.

My card: x1600 in Acer 8204

    Basically, heres the deal:

WHen I first install the drivers (properly remove all past drivers. Uninstall + DC3 + delete any other ATI files + install new drivers) Powerplay shows 3 bars - Plugged in/High battery/Low battery. When installing, had to install evidently using MobileMod

However, on a restart, it switches to Plugged in and Battery power, just 2 bars. The performance remains on OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE and also states it is on AC power, even when on battery.

I want my 30 mins - 60 mins back =/ Right now I am getting about 3 hours. I know it can get at least 3.5 hours if I could get the x1600 not to run on full blast 24/7

are you using any other software..such as NHC which will modify your card settings to give you more battery life? it also has an option to enable PP see if it is enabled...if you use something else, post back and let us know what it is.

    pb,out.

Well, I am not using anything else to change the ATI clocks. I currently use the Power Management that came with the Acer - NHC doesn't fully support Core Duo right now or I would be using that - but no, no other software.

I think Mike aka Shampoo has the same issue. I simply turned off the darn thing and use extreme underclocking (80/80) when on battery (through the automatic profile in NHC) it gives me 20 minutes more that Powerplay.

    Cheers,

I would love to follow that course of action Ivan. But I have a Core Duo notebook, and the 1.10 NHC beta doesn't work very well with Core Duo. It no longer BSOD, but stays LOCKED at a 6x multiplier and .95v (thats minimum) even when on AC power

Sad to hear it Tay! :(

Did you try the newest 10.1 beta 03? It uses a new driver and is faster. Maybe it will do some good? :)

    I wish you luck,

    Ivan

    Hi there.

I am having this same problem. Tried the Omega 6.3 release and the Dell Catalyst OEM drivers with the same results on my E1505 with an X1400; Powerplay always defaults to ‘plugged in’.

I am giving up on this issue until Dell drivers are updated or I find a utility to mod the latest Catalyst for the X1400.

Any of you whose Powerplay doesn't work, should check if Ati's Hotkey Poller Service is running. If you stop/disable this service, Powerplay won't work. So make sure it's set to "Automatic".

Right on the spot diGit_S! :)

That has solved the issue here (I had previously set the service to manual start).

A few things I’ve learnt on this issue reading around:

    - Dell’s drivers work for most, and certainly the original notebook installation setup gets PowerPlay working.
    - Problems with PowerPlay arise ‘on the fly’. A Windows boot (on battery or plugged in) is correctly detected but a hot power source switch with Windows running is not. This seems to be related to the ATI HotKey Poller service as suggested by diGit_S.
    - As reported on Dell’s forums (assuming ATI’s HotKey Poller service hasn’t been modified by users) the problem tends to arise with modded Catalyst or Omega drivers.
    - If you are going to switch drivers, it is recommended to run Catalyst Uninstaller (from ATI’s webpage) or Driver Cleaner Pro on a safe boot after uninstalling the previous ones.
    - For those wondering, the clock on ATI’s x1X00 chips cannot be easily modified with the current versions of NHC or ATT.

Hope this helps to clear up the issue and thanks for input diGit_S!

    Cheers,
