As in the topic. CatalystCreator (Twitter) has stated that Preview 3 drivers are pretty much the same as these. If you use CFx, install the 11.9 Profile 4.

Did they fix the terrain flickering in BF3 from Preview 3?

AMD Catalyst Application Profile - 11.9 CAP4
DDL: http://www.rage3d.com/cap/profiles/AMD_Catalyst_11.9_CAP4.exe
-
There is an official CAP 4 now. The one at RAGE3D was unofficial before released by AMD. Not sure if it's the same:
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/crossfirex-app-profiles.aspx
I will probably go with 11.10 anyhow. I can't believe they didn't touch it any more for BF3 considering the number of issues. -

does anyone else feel like "pretty much the same" is the same thing as "different"? Seems to be so.

I'm sure there will be more drivers for BF3 to come. This driver had to go through WHQL certification, so it's from several days ago. It doesn't mean they can't work on BF3 anymore. -
are these drivers recommended for batlefield 3??
-
This. Also do people with NV cards also get the rare but weird green/yellow screen flashes/flickering? Wondering if it's the game itself or an ati issues.
-
If the 11.10 WHQL is the same as the prerelease one im skipping it.
I want to play other OpenGL games than RAGE. -

Maybe this one will work. Could not get the display driver to install on 11.9 so was forced to install 11.8! This is on a 6970
-
You know what, il give it a shot and report back.
Seems the 11.10 WHQL drivers are better than the Prerelease 3 ones.
OpenGL works and i can play Minecraft, something the other drivers broke. -
HTWingNut I know you are a smart guy. WHQL certification takes weeks, at minimum, AMD has to send the drivers in 2 weeks in advance. These drivers are dated October 12th. How would they have touch it any more?
OpenGL are just different version, it's the older one. And it's not that the other one was broken etc. It's specific to Rage. That's been known for a long time now.
The recommendation for a month has been, just use the drivers with OpenGL that works with your applications and just drop the atioglxx.dll file from the Preview 3 into the Rage directory and you get both the Rage optimization and OGL that works with whatever else you use.
atioglxx.dll from Preview 3: http://www.mediafire.com/?87r6376krmoisce
Yes. And Nvidia users also have stuttering, this is due to memory leaks from the Engine. It's neither AMD's or Nvidia's fault, it's EA at fault. -
No, I'm not a smart guy. I just post a lot.
I know it takes time, but big guns like AMD and nVidia can cut the time significantly. Plus if you notice Pre-Release drivers are also significantly larger in file size than WHQL so there's some finagling done with the drivers before submission. In any case, I haven't had too many issues, but I know lots of other people have.
-
If i driver update kills all the other applications and games depending on OpenGL im calling it broken.
Some time ago i did use the atioglxx.dll from 11.10 pre 3, and while it did make the game playable again, it did not fix the texture poppings.
It would also either corrupt the textures or crash the game after a while.
I just gave up on RAGE and im probably finish it after a month or two has gone to give ID Software time to patch the game.
BF3 and Skyrim seems like worthy replacements, dont you agree? -
DEagleson... You really ought to read about ID Tech 5 engine then.
The Texture Pop-In is not an AMD issue. That's an issue with the ID Tech 5 engine. So yes, it's been confirmed there is texture pop-in on Nvidia, Xbox 360 and PS3. It's on ALL platforms. ID Software's solution to the minuscule ram on consoles was to have texture only render when you are looking at it, causing the pop-in.
The game has already been patched. And the texture-pop in is unlikely to go away. It's a problem with the engine itself.
And no I disagree. I enjoyed Rage more than any COD or BF game. I liked Rage a lot. And Skyrim is just an entirely different genre. -

Well, AMD drivers are pretty pathetic. Apparently they can't get their OpenGL sh!t together. 11.10 WHQL drivers completely break Rage for me (no textures, everything replaced with blue), which seems to be due to an old atioglxx.dll version that doesn't support OpenGL 4.2. Still have to use the dll from the Preview 3 release. Apparently AMD doesn't know how to support newer OpenGL versions without breaking compatibility with older games.
-
omg.same thing for me too.how did u fixed it??
edit:i fixed putting back in game's folder the atioglxx.dll from preview 3 drivers!!
-
Blame ID Software, not AMD... And don't start spouting well it works on Nvidia, because Nvidia users have texture issues as well and ID Software Carmack, who is the mastermind behind the engine, ONLY uses Nvidia. So don't even start with that nonsense.
AMD doing the best they can to clean up Carmack's mess. Carmack has even admitted almost all the issues AMD users are dealing with are his fault. -
TheGreatAnonymous Notebook Consultant
Sorry brah, but I'll continue to blame AMD. It's no secret that their OpenGL support lags well behind Nvidia, and it shows in this game. The drivers that were supposed to fix issues with Rage messed up other OpenGL games in the process. Even non-OpenGL games. I used the Rage Performance driver when it first came about and completely was unable to load Amnesia. So while that driver fixed Rage it rendered another game unplayable. I've actually gotten into the habit of quickly play-testing all my games after installing a new driver just to make sure they still work. Why is it so hard for them to release a driver where everything works properly? I couldn't care less about Nvidia, I just my games to work. Now, as you stated, the texture pop-in issues are an engine problem and have nothing to do with drivers, which I've learned to live with (never really cared about it in the first place). But when you have crap like no textures at all and making a game completely unplayable then that's where I get annoyed. And just because Nvidia has problems as well doesn't excuse AMD. -

if you don't want to install the 11.10s but yo uwant to play Rage...you can do this:

I love this forums' ignore function.

Apparently you didn't comprehend my post. But congratulations on being a complete idiot. -
The funny thing was that the 11.10 Prerelease 3 drivers did fix the texture popping speed to a point where it was actually harder to notice it.
Using the .dll fix did not reproduce the same result but it did make the game playable.
I have yet to test the 11.10 WHQL with RAGE but hopefully it wont start rendering the game all green and blue without textures.
(That was with the 11.9 WHQL + Pre3 OpenGL dll file) -
Unfortunately don't think will happen, will need to the Preview 3 .dll.
It seems the texture pop-in needs it's own OGL version. -
Hey, can you send or upload the .dll file you're using? Having the same problem here. Dammit AMD, lol.

@eklipse
Just check the last post in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/621498-11-10-whql-drivers.html
Put that dll in the same folder as Rage.exe. -
Oh, that was quick. Appreciate the link, gonna try it now.

I updated to 11.10 and saw no issues on my desktop PC.

Seems these drivers have addressed the flickering I would get browsing in Firefox 7.
-
Didn't really care about the new drivers until now!
-

Well, I got a blue bar crash with these drivers.
-
Has there been released any new application profiles ?
(What is the newest ones?)
