Powerplay works well on my card and I didn't have it before. Same benches though. I'm still testing it.

I'm not going to bother with the Mobile Catalyst I just don't like the CCC which uses a lot of resources and the pain in the butt .NET framework. I wish they would come out with a version that doesn't have to use .NET and have a clean interface like NVIDIA's. I love ATI but their drivers which are good but have a not to good interface.

is it worth the effort changing from 5.11 then wich seem to be very stable and give good results.

Tested a bit more. got a bit better results in benchmarks - 3074 in 3dmark05 with x700 128MB DDR at 415/435. 2296 on default (350/300).

I don't like CCC, but as I can see it (two cli.exe processes) usually take around 5MB on idle, 20-30 MB while playing with settings, and at the moment I don't touch it is back to 5MB total. It still freezes the comp if ATT was started first. I like Powerplay settings (I never had it before).

    Cheers,

I don't install the CCC - not very useful in my opinion.

I heard the 5.13's improve video quality a lot. I am going to download + install them soon, let you know how I make out. ;)

Thanks for posting this information, very helpful.

ccc isnt that useful you are right but the performance slider thing dose have an effect when i slide it all the way to performance i get 2428 and when i slide it all the way towards quality i get 1364!
when the slider is in the middle i still get lower than what i got without ccc, i get
    2333 instead of 2409.

Hi Chaz - I think video optimizations are valid only for x1xx series.

Hi Redfrog - do you see big difference in quality if you set it to high perfomance?

So far so good. It works. A little speed gain, stability OK. I'll play with it a bit more. Just to solve ATT+CCC issue. How to get Powerplay without CCC?

    Cheers,

ive sen a drop in performance from the 5.11s to the 5.13 i now get 2364 as aposed to 2409. ive uninstalled ccc at the moment as i got confused with all the settings i forgot were i was.
and when i got 2409 with the 5.11s ccc was not installed.
but when ccc was instaled there was a big differeance between optimum performance and optimum quality.

new score of 2451 with 5.13 and ccc normal settings accept catalyst ai set at advanced and the mipmap detail lvl set at high performance.

How to get powerplay without using CCC?

Wow, no offense, but I'm surprised that such advanced users are asking questions likes this. :D

Just install the Ati Control Panel, not CCC.

I think you can just install the Control Panel separately so you don't have to bother with CCC.

Great to know a new driver is out already. I like my 5.11's so I'm gonna see if these are any better in terms of quality, as performance doesn't vary too much.

I'll let you guys know :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

Does 5.13 go with hypermemory. I'm using version with hypermemory (512 MB) and I find it like disadvantage. I don't need shared memory, because x700 has 128 MB of dedicated memory. It's enough for me. Does anyone knows how to disable hypermemory feature on catalyst?

    Hi Mike,

Actually I never have done it (because I never ever had Powerplay, and didn't see it in CP either, and that was long ago before 5.12, 5.13 and CCC). I thought of CP, but as far as I know, there is no CP version of official ATI mobility driver, for desktops the last one was 5.11 with CP. So either I can download 5.11 for desktop, or 5.12 for FireMV with CP (I guess you didn't know that?) and try CP with 5.13, or wait for omega 5.13. What would you do? I guess CP isn't actually changing every time they make a new driver? CP alone I found was year or more old. Now I guess it is possible to install some old drivers that have CP (I have like 25 of them on my disk) and update driver only? Would Powerplay still show in it? And work? Some people had problems with 5.12.

I don't know all this. I would live with CCC (although I don't like it - people have reasons for this and I understand).
Actually ATT - Ati Tray Tools (this is for Device - Hi, Device :) ) is a bad program. It does something that:
    1. makes Everest not showing GPU and GPU ambient temps anymore!
    2. blocks CCC and freezes comp (CCC works fine if you didn't start ATT first. Exiting ATT doesn't help, only reboot)
    3. freezes comp when I access some of IT'S own features. (not overclocking, just display props for example)

But, it has best latencies settings, and it works for extreme OC. If I don't need that it would be long gone from my comp. (Rabit for example has some more latencies, but the most important that make real difference are missing).

Do you reckon that CP and ATT wouldn't freeze my comp? Can somebody verify? No offense taken, but we wouldn't be writing all those posts if we knew everything?

    Cheers,

Ivan...I'm not too sure about installing Control Panel separately with a new driver set, but it should work.

I use normal catalyst drivers, instead of the mobility versions. I just use DHmodTool3 and you can use all the latest driver sets WITH powerplay and CP. It recognizes your card as a mobile version no worries.

No, CP and ATT freezes. Stinks doesn't it. Maybe just me, but it froze for me. I'm gonna try installing 5.13's and CP tonight. I downloaded CP by itself from the 5.11 release. Hopefully it works.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Bad ATT. Well, there is no much point for me then, as I will get the same problems with CP or stinky CCC. I guess I will have ATT only when overclock and play with high OC settings. For example NHC can easily overclock to 400/400 without latencies of course.

BTW 5.13 seems a good driver, well until now. No problems, a small decrease in 3dmark03, a small increase in 3dmark05. It actually made things more fluent in my opinion. In 3dmark05 in first test when soldiers go into that tunnel I saw a big drop to 8 fps with 5.11. I swear it was 11 before on 5.10. With 5.13 there is again 11!

Mike, thanks for the info, and Merry Christmas to all,

I agree - with the 5.13 drivers, things are a bit more fluid - Quake 4, although I was always getting 50+ FPS before (with the 5.11's), now seems just a big smoother.

I will run 3DMark03 and 05 later, let you know how I make out ;)

    Merry Christmas!!!!

    Well, I ran 3DMark05 with the Catalyst 5.13's - this is OC'ed with 400:400.

With the 5.11's, I managed 3,133 with the same settings.

    Hi Chaz,

I also saw a bit better result in 3dm05, but a little lower in 3dm03. Do you also have this results? I mean, as long as games are better (faster) I don't care about those numbers, I'm just curious.

no probs for the inof ikovac :D

Wow lots of good feedback on these drivers, I guess I'll install 'em.

Dang I'm still so jealous of your videocard chazman. Wish they put that version of the x700 in the Z70Va. Oh well.

    Sorry for the delay - OC'ed at 400:400, I managed 7,132 in 3DMark03.

    Hello, hello.

I haven't managed crazy scores like yours Chaz :D

    I have managed scores of 66xx in 3Dmark03 and 29xx in 3dmark05.

I'm trying to break into the 3000's for 05 and 7000 in 03, but that won't happen.

    My GPU/MEM settings are 378/371.

Even messing with latencies I can't get mem past 371.

I'm trying out some lower GPU settings to get my mem higher.

    I think that's my max though :(

    Cheers,
    Mike

Mike, I have to say that I am surprised you can't go further. Just so you know, I don't run at 400:400 all the time, not even for games - only benchmarks. Typically I run about 20-30Mhz faster in both the core and memory for games, and sometimes I just fool with the latencies.

Have you tried upping the memory refresh bus? I found 99 is good, but then again, I have GDDR2 memory. I wouldn't recommend going past 150. Be sure that when you change some settings, benchmark with, test for stability, and record the scores for the benches. That way, you can see what combinations and settings produce the best results.
