Ive got an Acer 5024 with ATI X700 VGA card using Catalyst 6.3 drivers.
Can anyone tell me how to set up two Catalyst profiles so one runs the card at maximum performance for games, and another runs it as cool as possible so it doesnt fry your legs when running 2D apps?
I set up a couple of profiles and thought I had sussed it by setting the Powerplay settings to "Optimal Battery Life" for 2D and "Optimal Performance" for 3D and this certainly has the desired effect on the performance / heat output, but these settings dont seem to be profile specific, whatever you change gets applied in both profiles, so in order to play a game I first need to go into the Catalyst Control Centre and turn it up to Optimal Performance![]()
With my Desktop Nvidia drivers it detects 2d/3d and ramps up/down accordingly, is it possible to get the X700 do the same or at least allow me to apply all the Catalyst settings on a profile by profile basis?
thanks
Chris

What I would suggest doing is downloading ATI Tray Tools, and install that in place of the Catalyst Control Center.
It's easy to setup profiles in there, let us know when you get it. -
Cheers for that, just playing with it at the moment but it doesnt seem to allow me to underclock the graphics card to a significant degree? If I enable Powerplay in the Catalyst control panel the GPU Core / Memory goes down to around 85Mhz / 100Mhz, whereas ATI Tray autodetects the frequencies and only allows me to go down to around 260Mhz (from 350Mhz initially).
