Well Cebit is just starting so I thought it would be nice if we have a thread here logging all notebook related cebit news that any user might stumble upon and wishes to share..

    To start it off..

    1. New MSI G series notebooks (looking very slick)
Press release - MSI Europe ? News
    Hands on - Google Translate

    2. New Gigabyte Laptops. The U2442 ultrabooks and P2542G gaming laptop.
link - Gigabyte unveils U2442 ultrabooks and P2542G gaming laptop at CeBIT -- Engadget
edit: just noticed there are more models listed in the press release on that page. Have a look.

    3. Fujitsu Lifebook UH572 Ultrabook - Google Translate

Please feel free to add any new updates here so that all the news remains in one place. It would be great if you checked for repeats before posting.

PS: @admins, I know this isnt really the correct section for this. I posted it here because this section tends to have higher traffic than the news and reviews section. Feel free to move if you feel the need.

Good idea to make a list of all the notebooks. Then we don`t have to go from thread to thread to keep us updated :)

I wouldnt believe that I would say this so soon..

But the gigabyte U2442 looks superior to the LG P330! It seems it has a better gpu, cpu and screen.. One thing I presume though is, that it has a fixed battery(6 cells?).. But other than that its a clear winner!! And only for 1000 dollar ? What a price.. Lets hope the internals arent molded like in other ultrabooks so we can update with ssd !

Also very interesting how thin it is, how can such a thin chassis cool such a strong card (which I presume is stronger than the 555m/635m)

    Go Kepler!

Uhh how quickly my opinion can change.. Gigabyte has super specs, but the build quality seems quite crappy! You can see the ventilation openings on the back of the notebook though, so maybe cooling is efficient?

And looks like it has a fixed battery, but what bugs me even more is the build quality
    [IMG]

Just look at the video for the build quality at kurtcocaines link

Also, its said to run for 5 hours.. so probably in reality 3 to 4 hours? Weak battery -.-

Much better to have a single thread for all products as I wouldn't know about MSI's GT60/GT70 since I don't follow that vendor at all. Would like to really know how aluminum the chassis really is though. Any Alienware info? Someone from Dell said they were going to announce something at CeBit I think.

660m is 2gb so it looks like the 670m is the new 560m as far as being the entry level gpu in the true "gaming" notebooks. Asus to follow. 570m+ performance for all!

The fact that NONE of these machines have actual 600M (Kepler) parts in them to show, should be an indicator that we are a lot further from a release/launch than they are letting on.

And.. if you look, most of the laptops on display there are still Sandy Bridge.. Very few IVY bridge parts..

There's a few, apparently the 640m is a Kepler, which is why it's seen in an Ultrabook. I'll settle for 7970m :p

    635m is a 555m rebadge

640m could be kepler, but theres not definitive proof till now!

Ive read that AMD mobile parts are nowhere to be seen because of low yields in general (they use the 28nm capacity to meet desktop customer demands), now why would nvidia already have mobile parts ready when they dont even have released a single desktop gpu also because of bad yields

We will just have to wait and see

    EDIT:

    Well, I dont know

Look at this, notebookjournal.de benchmarked the 640m in gigabyte 2442 with the 640m and it reached 142.000 points

    German Source

For example the msi ge20dx with an i5 and 555m scores 149,609 points

    Source

Doesnt look that much stronger, although obviously the aquamark bench isnt the best choice, but 3dmark 11 supposely crashes..

I really hope though its kepler and there is also still the 650m

Wayyyy too overpriced. If they maintain this price, I predict that it will not sell well at all, considering you can get crossfire/SLI for the same price.

    ---

I really like the Acer Aspire V3, though ...especially since they're going 14" instead of 13.3".

Wonder what GPU they'll use since the 3830 currently has a 540m ...a re-branded 540m perhaps. A cheaper alternative (and bigger) M11XR3, hmm?

Yeah, pretty disappointing in terms of new product announcements...Maybe these are all European prices? US prices tend to be lower in general.

3k+ for the MSI GT70 isn't going to sell at all here when the M17x R3 is 2k and the M18x is 3k (and that's WITHOUT discounts).

So far, Clevo's absence is particularly strange.. Cebit is usually the show at which they make new announcements,etc..

Two days left in the show and engadget is already leaving... either this is them being their useless selves or there's no big announcements coming up.

Worst CeBIT EVER. Seriously what a crappy excuse for a notebook show.

"Don`t worry guys, everything will be revealed at the CeBIT show next week", signed random NBR person

So what have been shown? Basicly standard notebooks with a poster next to it saying "3rd generation i7 processor" and "Next generation Nvidia graphic card". And , someone posted a screenshot of "GTX 660M. WOOOW very impressive. What the %¤"#!". Nobody knows anything wether it is a Fermi or a Kepler. It could be some last minute strategy from OEMs to rename their GT 230M do atleast have *something* to show.

Nvidia showed nothing, AMD showed nothing. Not even something about Ivy. No benchmarks from OEMs. NDA was still there to stop OEMs to show us. Not even a remotely impressive or cool notebook. Everything looked like the last 4 years.

Whats the point of having a notebook fair if they can`t reveal anything?

My sentiments exactly. No one had anything really to show at all.. and it shows. Its pretty safe to assume that nothing new will hit till this summer for the back-to-school season. Bummer.

There was a thread here late last night linking to an Anandtech article about the 7000M line-up. Now it and the article appear to be both gone. Hmm.

    (edit) Found it. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5426/amd-clarifies-7000m-strategy

Nothing unexpected there. I was hoping this show would give me some guidance on exactly what was coming out and when so I could decide what to buy and when to hold off to, but it just gave a whole lot of nothing. :(

Would E3 be the next big gaming show? Maybe in June, some gaming laptop makers will finally be able to talk about products.
