I just ordered a vostro 1310 with a 8400. Does anyone know the probability that i will recieve a defective card? or will dell have sorted out this problem by now? If you were in my position would you cancel the order or keep it?
Thanks

wow..this is a really wierd question? Why are you foreshadowing such issues? Is there something about the vostro line that i dont know about? Has dell been sending out a lot of laptops lately with a bad card?

There is no problem with the card. There never has been any problem. The chances of you getting a defective card are about 1/1,000, and if you do happen to get a bad one, return the laptop and get another one exactly the same.

I only ask about the defective card because Nvidia has acknowledged that some of their notebook cards have been shipped with overheating issues. There has also been word on these forums that the 8400 were affected.

WE ARE ALL GONNE DIEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh wait we don't
funny thing is the 8400/8600 is around for some time now people overclocked it to the max and everybody praised the 8600GT drr3 for being to good. Now the news about bad chips leaked out everybody thinks his laptop will explode any second.
The thing is the video card wont die on you in 1-2 weeks but prob after 1-2 years after many times turning on and off you system (heating and cooling down the chip) the heating and cooling down kills the chips its not the overheating i hear everywhere thats just bad laptop cooling or dust -
All 8400 and 8600 mobile chips are "defective", according to the reports However, they are only defective in the sense that they are running hotter than they were designed to, which is resulting in their failure rate being higher than other mobile graphics chips. What that rate actually is and what anyone is going to do about it, if anything, is still a mystery at this point. I know several people, myself included, who have one of these "defective" chips and none of us has had one fail on us.
