    Hi, i'm an italian tecnician.
I'm happy to found a community like this, i love modding notebooks :D

I have a problem with a toshiba L500 with 4570 Ati MXMII video card.

Simpy, this laptop turns off random, apparently without reason.

I have an acer MXMII video card... nvidia 8400GS

If i mod with nibitor that card changing manufacturer, it works on toshiba
    notebook?

    sorry for my english

You might want to check, but I do not think that acer and toshiba use the same MXMII form factor. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will answer you. ALso welcome to the community. God Bless :)

First, please identify the problem of turning off. Is it CPU temps, GPU temps?
Open HWMonitor and check temps before it turns off. Please post up the temperatures.

You will also downgrade your GPU once you switch them.

Are you even sure Toshiba has released a bios to support that card? I do not think with laptops you can just throw in any GPU you want, the manufacturer needs to release a bios update to support that GPU.

Also do you have a heatsink that can support your Nvidia in the Toshiba? I know my heatsink on this Asus seems to be designed specifically to this one card and unlikely to work with others.

Or at least that was my impression.

Just get a new Radeon HD 4570 - as ShadowFate stated, the 8400M GS is a marked decrease in performance.

thanks all for reply, the reason i want to use a 8400GS is: I have it yet.

notebook turns off in idle too....

i have changed cpu, and charger, w/o battery and it still turns off.

    maybe is motherboard issue.

but i can't know if i don't try with another video card.

Did you check the reported temperatures? Idle doesn't mean it's not overheating and turning off.

Remember with the nvidia 8400GS, they were built faulty and will fail you sooner then later. I'd suggest staying away from them if you can.

As people have suggested, check your temperatures and report back.

When was the last time you cleaned the laptop of dust build-up?
