Hi there, I recently moved into university acommodation, and have connected my M1530 to the internet service provided.
However, it appears that the network admin has decided to block games, as when i enquired about the issue, i got this response:
Hello Robin,
I am sorry to say but the network is blocking online games.
Kind regards,
Eric van der Ploeg
As far as i know, this will be done via port blocking?
So, does anyone know a way of changing the ports that call of duty 4 uses?
Hopefully i could change them to the ports that a program that is allowed uses.
If anyone can help with this or think of another solution it would be greatly appreciated![]()
PS. The university uses a proxy server if it helps.

yeah our uni blocks ours by ports to. so far i havnt found an answer. ive sent them an email detailing the ports i need, and asked (nicely) if they would be willing to unblock them just for my user naem, login, ip address etc. so far no reply other than they will look into it soon.
i havnt found a way to remap what ports games use. the proxy will play havoc with games though. you will have to keep a web browsing page open in the background with auto refresh turned opn to prevent timeouts from the uni network.
off topic, but if you have itunes on a uni network, turn sharing on in edit>prefferences>sharing. get as many people to do it as possible, you can share your music over itunes over the network. -
Wow, seriously? Blocking video game ports? I really hope you're not paying for room and board because that's outrageous. I'd inquire as to why and keep fighting until they unblock the ports.

Go into your activision/call of duty 4/players/profiles/your name here
And click on config_mp, right click, open with word pad (not notepad) and add this line
seta net_port "1111"
Obviously replace 1111 with any port number you would like to use.
Save and close, and it should work. -

Sorry, but I have to close this thread. You're trying to go outside of rules defined by your network administrator, which is not something we allow discussion on.
