So like many others I have a GeForce 8400M G in my notebook. I've read that it has 128MB of dedicated memory and a maximum of 895MB of memory, which I assume includes 767MB of shared memory. So this means that of the 2GB of ram I have in my notebook, 767MB is being used by the gpu.

Is it possible to reduce the amount of ram being used as shared memory?

If so, would this be worthwhile if you don't play any games?

You cannot do this. The memory is allocated ONLY if the card actually needs the memory to do its job, which will rarely happen (if ever). The driver handles it, and its hardcoded and cannot be changed. Fortunately, the driver leaves as much RAM un-allocated as possible so you are safe.
