    Hey guys,
What is the least expensive laptop I can purchase with at least a 7900gtx mobile gpu? Also, is the 7900gtx THAT much better then the 7900gs? I have not been able to find comparisons of these two cards. thanks

The Clevo M570U can be configured with the Go7950GTX, and probably has the best price/performance ratio for a 17 inch gaming notebook. It can be configured at rjtech.com, or at powernotebooks.com.

I don't think it's worth your money to step up from the 7900GS to the 7900GTX. The 7900GTX is just a higher clocked version of a 7900GS. Perhaps there may be more pixels or shader units, but it's really not worth it. You can overclock a 7900GS to 7900GTX power and you'll save a lot of money.

If you want to consider an upgrade, consider an upgrade to a 7950GTX, which is a pretty significant upgrade from a 7900GS. The 7950GTX is a newer refreshed card that has a lot more memory, pipelines, and is clocked very aggressively.

Look into the Sager 5760 for starters if you want the 7950GTX. If you live in the U.S., you can get a pretty powerfully equipped Sager 5760 for well under $2500. Laptops like the Dell XPS M1710 and Alienware models will cost you well over $3000. The Sager is the better deal.

If you're getting a GTX, don't skimp on the other parts. Get at least a T7200 CPU, no less than a gig of RAM, and at least a 5400RPM hard drive. It's not worth it to cripple a screaming graphics chip with the rest of the system being slow.

the specs on the toshiba aren't too great. probably better off with E1705 given the other components being much better.

Yeah, it is a Core Duo T2400 CPU which isn't too great but can be upgraded to Core 2 Duo if you're adventurous.
It does have gigabit ethernet though, which the E1705 doesn't have. RAM and HD can always be upgraded on your own, and it has a fingerprint reader if you like that sort of thing.

"Cheap" and "Go7900GTX" don't go together. Your best bet for a budget gaming machine is the Go7900GS, which is a beast in its own right. Take a look at the Dell E1705 (check the Dell Outlet or use the Dell Coupons) and also the Gateway NX860XL.

Check out the P100-9752. It has the 7900GTX gfx card and a core 2 duo T5600 CPU.(1.83 MHz, 2MB L2) It comes with one gig of memory.

I am currently trying to decide between that unit and P105-9337. It "only" has the 7900GS, but 2 gigs of memory and the T7200 CPU. (2.0 MHz, 4MB L2)

    toshiba p100

I like this model a lot. The weakness to me is not the older core duo, its the 1440 x 900 resolution screen. If not for that I would say its the best thing on the market because i like how small it is and its general design.

the 7900 gtx is not a higher clocked version of the 7900 gs. You should go to nvidia.com and look at the cards statistics Ill link them later.

hmmm well that shows the speed difference which is large but not the physical differences. It has more pipelines

They are related in that the 7900 gs is the same card with parts disabled.

    definitely something you would notice.

If you want a 7900GTX you need at least 2 Gigs of ram and a 1.8Ghz cpu. It's better to take a 2 gig system with a 7900gs than a 1gig system with a 7900gtx.

Upgrading the RAM is very easy, and shouldn't require that you completely take apart your laptop.
Besides, buying 2GB of RAM on Newegg or other sites ends up being cheaper than buying 2GB at the ODMs such as Dell.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but when you take 1GB of ram, i think that both slots will be used too. So you have to sell 2x 512MB ram and buy 2x 1GB ram. In some games of todays you notice the extra Gig of ram. And in games that aren't out yet you will notice it even more. Don't underestimate the importance of ram.

That is correct. You can find 2 x 1GB of 667mhz RAM for around $150 these days. ODM's usually charge around $200+ for 2GB, although prices have been going down since Vista's release.

Basically what I'm getting at is: How much RAM you get initially with the system should not sway your decision on which laptop you buy, because the 2GB upgrade is rather cheap and very easy to do.

From what I've heard months ago, the 7900GS is just a GTX with 4 pipes disabled and lower clocks. I've heard of 7900GS overclockers with modded BIOS who achieved identical or better benches than stock GTX cards.
