Didn't take these guys long, and with no admin or kick feature, this should be interesting.
I can't help but lol when I read the following quote. PC gamers ftw

HAHAHAHA
IW picked a fight with the wrong gamers -
ok that is just, WOW
-
Since I don't have the game, what's the hack? The fact that all they enemies are highlighted?
And do you think the same can be done on X360 and/or PS3? That would be quite comical if it was. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
yeah. fortunately, anyone who uses it will ultimately be permanently banned from playing online. if they want to ever play online again, they will have to repurchase the game.

I bet we will a kick vote system implemented into MW2 within the next two months.
-
Hacking undetected has been done for years, even on Valve's 'magical' protection.
The only thing to stop a hacker is a vote ban which normally only a admin has.
This game is dead if they don't bring back dedicated servers. -

I'm hoping IW did this on purpose, to let the hackers reveal themselves and post their hacks, so they can do a mass detect and ban after the fact. If these hacks came out so quickly, the devs at IW had to have known this was possible.

I'm thinking something along the lines of complete STEAM account bans. -
-
hahaha your so right, this game is dead - its not the fastest selling game of all time already, it wont break any sales records, playtime records, user records, its just dead immediatly.
I think you will be proved VERY wrong lol. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i don't know... in a sick sort of way- i kind of like the matchmaking, as just a common player.
if i were in a league or something , i would probably hate it. -

Sorry to say this but the game is gonna die in a few months of time if there is no dedicated servers and server admins to stop these hackers. It much easier to use cheats in the PC version then in the console version and a anti cheat system is not gonna to ban every hacker soon as they join thats why they are server admins to kick and ban cheaters and also other rule breakers like spammers, racism, etc. Most cheaters in MW2 are pissed off PC users trying to ruin the game to get their message heard. I dont understand why cant they just have Matchmaking and Dedicated servers in MW2 and then everyone will be happy and the game will be awesome then it wont be much whinning anymore as most of you say here. IW did a bad move with the PC version of MW2 making like the console version and they should knew that this would happen because PC and XBOX360/PS3 is so different from one another
This is only the beginning maybe IW will add dedicated servers in a few months time when they realized that they made a huge mistake for the PC version
Also COD4 has lasted for two years and people are still playing it today i doubt MW2 will even last that long maybe in a few months when people start getting bored of the game
But other than the multiplayer of MW2 it still a good game though -
This doesn't look too good, since I want to buy the game and I don't want to be welcomed by a bunch of hackers durning my 1st multi match already....

Im sure valve will plug any holes... game just came out remember - so hackers have an advantage right now until VAC see's all the exploits and starts patching to stop it... .they'll all get banned eventually, be patient.
-
I tried to call it this would become a huge problem in losing dedi servers, in CSS where even the most advanced private clients developed by leagues can't detect a large portion of well coded hacks, leaving Steam to do the bans is an absolute an utter joke. IW needs to make a department solely on working with steam to develop cheat detection... like now.
Oh and garandhero, saying they will ALL get banned is the most hilarious thing I've ever heard, coders will always find a step ahead of cheat detections, always. The most we can hope for is a majority of cheaters getting banned, not all. -
That was quick.
-
I think that's likely what I meant of course you always have a few bad apples that litterally have so little going for them they spend tons of time creating working hacks, but they will be few and far between. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
sure, the cheaters will always make new hacks that don't get detected right away, but once they are detected, anyone using it gets vac banned.
sure, they can create a new hack that avoids detection for awhile, until the word gets out...
then it gets you vac banned.
1. most people don't have the desire to hack the game
2. of those that do, most will be deterred by the potential cost (rebuying the game is $40-$60)
3. of those that make it to step 3 (want to cheat, and don't know about VAC or expect to avoid vac detection) most will stop once they get vac banned once because...
3a. it is a giant PITA
3b. they will have to rebuy the game if they want to play again
3c. they will go to the steam forums and complain about VAC and pretend like they were never hacking and beg for their online account access back
3d. they won't get their online access back
3e. they will probably rebuy the game
4. those who continue to cheat at this point are very few and far between. it will probably take some time to get these guys VAC banned, but in the long run, i totally stand behind VAC (and PB), and I believe they tend to get the job done.
5. if you disagree and think PB or VAC suck - why don't you try and counter hack the hackers? use their hacks against them or create your own to dominate them. you probably won't get VAC banned, right? -
I havent ran into any hackers yet, this will be dealt with quickly, I think I would much rather hack on a dedicated server because you can still go to other ones, this way they will just get PERM banned.
-
Thanks for coming out though.
Also this is awesome I hope it goes to such hell that they have to get dedicated servers or work a lot to fix the hacking problem and lose some money. I will buy this game on a 50 percent sale in about 4-6 months when everything calms down and I don't get reamed by a 60 dollar PC game price tag. For now I will just play the single player with my complimentary copy until that sale goes down. -
-
As far as I know, PC game sales are at 800k, so they still sold a considerable amount despite the suprising hate bandwagon. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
And again, the PC sales are merely the icing on the cake. -

King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
So basically we should wait a year then get the game so we meet no hackers
fine by me haha

Every version has its issues to be ironed out.
Today, the day after launch, IW shut down the ps3 multiplayer servers because they didn't anticipate so many people playing the game. Just a random fun fact. -
mobius1aic Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
IWnet wouldn't be so big an issue if you could still browse a list servers, both dedicated and P2P, or just do a quick match.
-
I think what a lot of people are missing actually is that VAC bans are typically account wide, not just for the specific game.
I don't know if Valve changed their steam agreement since they started outsourcing VAC to other games, but in the Counterstrike: Source days, anyone caught by VAC loses their whole steam account and all games included.
Tons of drama about that, so I don't know if that's still the case. To be honest, I'm hoping it is still like that.
edit:
Yep, here we go. Straight from the VAC faq from steam's site:

So yeah, let them hack in protest of the PC version. Maybe they should have protested in a different way, like not giving Activision their $60 -

Not really surprised about the hacks. MW2 is a hacker's paradise right now since there are no dedicated servers, or even vote kicking. VAC always amused me too. OGC would release their new hacks that circumvented a new version of VAC that was yet to be released.

I went to play this game at a friend's house yesterday just to give it a one over sort of speak...
I'll admit i was going into it knowing everything i know about the downsides of the game but really wanted to see what its like for myself.
Well, i couldnt connect to any server for about ten minutes... Then once i connected, the game kicked me out into windows. Alright...
Then i waited for just 2-3 minutes (So its really just a matter of luck - how long you wait for the matchmaking) and was connected to a game.
There were three... not just one... three people hacking. why..... So i joined another server. And guess what? It was the same server with three hackers. -
I haven't had any connection problems but for the love of god give us votekick
-

lol glad i didnt buy this piece of (multiplayer mainly)
playin single player atm..its spectacular as ever but realy shorttoo..when im done with it all i just gonna get rid of the files n save my $$$ for l4d2 -
So happy I cancelled my preorder.
They will have to include dedicated servers, unless they are mass banning? hoping that people will repurchase to make them more $$$... -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
it kinda makes financial sense, and should also serve to mostly stop the hackers.
i'm pulling for that mass-ban.
i'm surprised people have the guts to hack the game.
1. how do you know they are hacking?
2. in my experience, i am literally placed into a game nearly instantly, the entire matchmaking process is faster for me than browsing for a good looking dedicated server (<2 seconds vs <20 seconds). that said, i have seen some people warp around and lag, which sucks. also- when i finally experienced my first host disconnect, it was nearly 30 seconds before the game started again, not 5 seconds as i have heard before. -
