@HT- according to their website it's still in development. They are releasing new vids and so forth. I hope it doesn't get scraped. Based on unreal3 engine I think.

This wasn't scrapped, this just won the best looking indie game @ 2011 GDC. This is all in game footage too, the 3rd person view from a spectator.

What was scrapped was Project Offset, the previous game that the Adhesive team were once part of.

Khang Le was also one of the major artists at Project Offset (here is his photoshop demonstration, incredible): http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/concept-art-using-photoshop-part-1/

    My bad, sorry.

Thing I don't like about it is it's an action FPS. While I'm sure it will be fun, I'm still waiting for a good true sequel to the MechWarrior games. 40-60 foot behemoths, that move slowly, like a tank, and are essentially simulations. Nothing beats MechWarrior IMHO. MechWarrior Reboot looks great, but it's been on hiatus I think due to legal copyright battles or something stupid like that. Nevermind the customers, let's hold this crap up in the courts for years on end.

The MechWarrior reboot looks like it will be scrapped also a UDK game.

My understanding is MechWarrior is based on the BattleTech. Except BattleTech used mecha designs from RoboTech and Macross and the MechWarrior reboot used those designs. So for now looks like the game will be scrapped unless the remake the game without the stolen designs.

They didn't steal the designs. They paid the original creators to use them, but Harmony Gold USA keeps insisting they own the rights (within the US) and going to court. It would be great if S&T could use those designs since they were such a big part of BattleTech's beginnings and especially in the reboot's setting. I think the best bet is for S&T to comission new art to replace the "unseen" designs based on the art they used to update and replace them. Not sure if it's still an option since its future is questionable at best by now.

As for Hawken, it looks great, but not sure how long it will keep me engaged based on the gameplay. I know Hawken is its own game, but I compare every mech game to MW2 and alot of the complexity it brought to combat.

Mechwarrior is a classic. Hawken looks very cool, but not sure I'm such a fan of mechcombat in a FPS twitch based form... Bring on the slow hulking Mech's though. I love the feeling of size and power you get, especially when fighting in a city. Awesome.

Wasn't there a mod based on the Crysis engine, or was the MechWarrior Reboot it?

I also love the slow hulking mechs the size of buildings. I don't recall ever fighting in a city setting with any MechWarrior games, and Mech 2 is definitely my favorite as well. I haven't been able to get it to work in XP or Win7 though. :(.

The videos on youtube look impressive for MWLL. Looks like it's in beta .44 so a long way to go. The mechs move great! Looks to me they just need more maps and better shading and texturing, but the models look and move great already. And luckily they are using CryEngine 2 instead of 3.

Call me a luddite but Hawken just looks like mechs for the modern warfare set. More robotech then mechwarrior, to be sure. On the flip side, anything that furthers the genre butters my roll.

Thoughts of a real mechwarrior sequel (not that xbox crap), make me giddy!

Do you know what a luddite is? It's a person who followed a ficticious King Ludd who was against labor saving technologies, or some claim against the free market. Not sure what a luddite has to do with a video game.

Also have you seen Robotech? Robotech mecha were essentially armor suits, very humanoid looking for the most part. I'd say they look more like Macross. But I don't think they look like either. It's obvious Adhesive Games is going for a steam punk and future tech, gives it a unique feel to it I think. The mechs look like steam punk, except they use rocket propulsion, it's a nice blend. Also I wouldn't make any judgements about gameplay just yet. The video clearly states this is not representative of final product. It's not even beta, this is just prototype stage. Which means they probably only had a few models done for this video, and these may just be the more agile scout class mechas. We don't know if they will have more aerial mechas or behemouth mechas yet.
