I have a HP Pavilion DV5-1222tx (4 months old) and for some time now I get a chirpy sound (like the sound of cricket at night) under the left side of the keyboard. (Keys A, S, D area).
Its a high pitched low noise that goes up and down and sometimes you don’t hear it at all. It seem to be electronic like sound that come from capacitors – my assumption is its coming from th VGA)
HP replaced my mother board due to a wireless card issue and the sound still persists in the new motherboard. It can be very annoying at times.
Is this normal?- is there anything I could do to get rid of it?

It could be what they call "cpu whine" , even though it can come for the motherboard, inductors/capacitors.

One member actually covered them in silicone to stop the noise , but this is not generally recommended.

Anway just do a search for "cpu whine"

EDIT : also have you eliminated the hdd as a cause of the noise?

My hp dv5t also had the cpu whine. It can be very annoying in a silent room, but once you are doing something, it can easily be ignored.

Sometimes turning off C-states power option eliminates it, other times not.
