Why have i never seen customizable laptops offer a choice between Nvidia OR ATI graphics options for a computer (like with Dell laptops)? Is it because of a computability issue, can certain motherboards in laptops only accept one type of graphics? With all the issues going on with nvidia mobile cards it'd be nice to see an option to switch over to a different card manufacturer without having to buy a totally different laptop just for the graphics.

Agree. However, I think that since AMD bought ATI, there will be a tendency to see more and more a distinction between the more expensive and more powerful Intel+Nvidia laptops and the cheaper AMD+ATI laptops.

The last time I saw an ati and nvidia option on the same laptop was the dell 1705 where you could have an x1400/x1300 or 7800/7900gs. Between compatibility and what not the fact that AMD bought ATi has alot to do with where their cards are in the market. Plus with ATi losing ground in the performance market over the past few years Nvidia has been the "standard" for performance models and ATi goes in budget models.
