New city-building simulator from developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive, designed to do everything right that SimCity (2013) got wrong.
Personally, looking past the always online nonsense DRM, I actually liked a lot about SimCity (2013). It improved in numerous ways over SimCity 4, which was an old favourite of mine. It couldn't ever live up to the latter's legacy however, due to the overly strict size limitations imposed on cities, numerous major bugs in the simulation, poor optimisation and of course, that online DRM BS. It had potential, but completely faltered in the execution. And then of course EA killed off Maxis last week, because... EA.
So now this new game, Cities: Skylines has swooped in, looking to take full advantage of us disappointed SimCity fans who are still looking for the true successor to SimCity 4. No online necessary, cities can grow to be 9x the size of SimCity's cities (25x with a mod), full Steam Workshop integration for mods, in-built map editor for terraforming and all the while carrying over the best features from SimCity (2013).
So far, the reception has been mostly positive from both players and critics alike: http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/cities-skylines
I've purchased it and plan to give it a go later tonight. Looking forward to it!![]()
Anyone else picking this one up?

I'm not too much into city builders, prefer transport games more (Train Fever, Cities In Motion - another game by Colossal Order by the way), but this one looks interesting. Might grab it when it goes on a deep sale.
EDIT: Watched this video and was quite impressed with how game handles hydroelectric damns. Definitely gonna buy it to screw around.

One thing I noticed: "Does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Cards" in system specs. Seriously? Does it mean it won't play or just not supported? Seems like the perfect casual game for an Intel GPU machine.

This game looks like it might be a worthy sim to get. I loved the original SimCity 2000 and 4 was okay (it was really buggy for me), this game looks really good though.
-
BTW HT, that's a bit of a joke lol.. Banning this type of game to work from intel igpu!Ethrem likes this. -

If this is built the same way, it might actually require more power than the HD 3000/4000 can provide, so they just blanket said "No Intel". That's kind of dumb, though, since the Iris and Iris Pro should be good to go... -
-
Is it just me or is it super slow to make money at the beginning of the game? Certainly harder than SimCity.

After watching some vids on Youtube really tempted to buy it. Unfortunately even with -20% on GMG it's still €23ish, which is kinda steep for me. Must...resist...

So, I actually bought the game... It's sure gonna be an interesting night...

Also, so far this game is the only way to visit Los Santos:

I shouldn't be having any problems running this game with a Nvidia 750M, no? I believe my XPS 15 is just throttling out of control and really struggling.

I'm having so much fun with this game! Don't remember when was the last time I enjoyed city builder that much.
Still in the process of populating my first 2x2 tile. I have unlocked and bought another 3-4 extra tiles, yet I'm still not quite finished with my first one!
Now I need to figure out where to put that damn damn. On first attempt I flooded half of my city...ChrisAtsin and goldenglove2 like this. -
Nice city! This game is exactly what SC5 was thought to be. It's awesome to see such a small team put together such a great game.

Been developing my city a bit more:
Doesn't look much different, was mostly tinkering with roads and luckily now traffic seems a bit better on the road leading to industry.
Now in process of swapping garbage dumps to incinerators, and finally changed wind turbines to solar farms. Unfortunately don't see any possibility of fitting hydroelectric damn... Damn... Good thing those solar farms provide enough electricity. Also started ore and wood industry in upper regions of the city.
Now have some thoughts about building sort of commercial/office region on one half of inland (to the right) and farming industry on the others. On a spare 2*2 square thingking about doing some low/high resedentianl areas.
Man, there's so much to do in this game! Did I already say how much I love this game? -
Can you spawn natural disasters and godzilla and spaceships, etc?
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Not sure if devs are planing to add natural disasters.
Personally I don't need any, I would be heartbroken if something bad happened to the the city I spent so much time building...TomJGX likes this. -

Well, I'm just thinking for my kids. They like older SimCity games where you can bring in natural disasters, volcanoes, spaceships, Godzilla, giant robot, etc. I would build a massive city, save it, or just download one, then let them load it and destroy it, lol.

I have some fond memories of Godzilla ruining lives in SC

This game is EPIC! The best game I have played in a long time. The price is also very reasonable for what you get. Extremely good value for money. Tons of mods already available through Steam Workshop. What's not to like? I haven't found anything yet.

Road constructions. It's good for this sort of games, but I do wish intersection construction was easier. Upgrading roads from one way to normal and vice versa is also not possible. Luckily there's a mod for that.
Have to demolish burnt out buildings yourself. But again, there's a mod for that.
It also would be nice if there was a grid on map itself and not only on roads, for construction reasons.
I probably forgot to mention another thing or two. All in all issues are very small and they don't take anything away from the overall enjoyment I get playing this game.
Almost forgot to mention, I also have these graphical glitches, like lines on roads and stuff, but I think it's mostly to my laptop than game...
And a video:

I do wish lines would be coloured differently automatically on their creation, because the way you have to do it now is not very intuitive. Especially for a game with no tutorial.
EDIT: almost forgot - no autosave. But yet again, there's a mod for that.

I would like to buy this game, but I have an i5 4200M and I wonder if I will have slowdowns when my city grows up. How much is heavy on the cpu this game?

For me performance stayed pretty much stable, haven't really noticed any slowdowns (city with 60k population). However if you will install 25 tile mod it will hit your performance.
But I would still get the "trial version" first, just to see how it performs. -

I decided to buy this game 10 minutes after my first "try"
. I LOVE it! For now I am at beginning, I have 500 population xD. I always searched a game like this, beaches I really like to create cities, but most of them was too complicated or simply I didn't liked them, this game instead is perfect for me!!.
About performance, my acer (in signature) has no problem to handle it at High settings at 60 FPS, I expected an high cpu usage (as typical for this type of games) but it seems to stress more the graphic card (always at 90-95% usage).killkenny1 likes this. -
BTW, great game with tons of fun. I know many people have said this already but this is what SimCity should have been. -
My little city has reached 2.600 citizens
, I'm having some troubles with electricity, but nothing serious, anyway I'm thinking on restart my city, because I didn't organised well it, I did a typical country city of America, but I clamped too much things, now I need more space for larger streets, and to create it I should destroy more than a half of houses in my city.
Yes, tomorrow I'll restart my city and I will try to plan it better -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Well, my city I was building went to crap. It was doing very well, had a nice 30k-ish income per week, steady citizen growth. Then, after hitting 60k pop. mark, I began having massive traffic problems. Lost 2/3 of population, income went down, lost a lot of money, and my attempts to rebuild roads didn't prove fruitful. Population dropped to 25k-ish, yet there still was massive traffic problem... Will have to start a new city now...
Sad, so sad...
Thinking about it now, disasters would come in handy right now.

Starting a new city. Baby steps...

Use one way roads as onramps and offramps to roundabouts and highways, as they don't create intersections with traffic lights and the traffic goes much smoother.
Lots of VERY useful tips about the game here:

^^^Yeah, I watched his vids (still do actually). Lots of useful tips indeed.
Those are one way roads by the way, except that one in the middle. In the end I will redo everything, just like the last time. I will have to do it careful this time though...TomJGX and Marecki_clf like this. -
Well, as others have said, this game is addicting ha! Very enjoyable, just need to plan my traffic patterns better.

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I recently started to play Cities: Skylines again. Even bought the add-on.
After a few hours of gameplay I had my city up and running. Hope I won't screw it up I did last time...
Anyway, I now need your help. Namely I need district name ideas. Write 'em up!
