Like i stated in a prior thread i am looking for a massive multiplayer but i dont want to have to spend hours on end to get something done. I saw this game that comes with both and 30 days and i was wondering if anyone could possibly give me some insight on if it might satisfy my needs and if not what else could excluding guild wars which already have.

I played City of Heroes a long while ago for about 5 months. It is quite entertaining and you'll feel pretty satisfied the whole way through. I think significant changes have taken place since I played making soloing a more viable option for all classes (I was a controller class: Grav/Storm spec, soloing was a total bust for me, but I could turn the tide of a large group battle). World of Warcraft is also a very popular casual style MMORPG, most people can spend a few minutes to get stuff done in there till they hit the upper end and start raiding.
One of my all time favorites was Planetside, an MMOFPS. Its still around, it only has 3 servers now (2 USA, 1 Europe), but its still active. Its a massive tug of war where three factions endlessly vie for control of certain islands (they changed to planets in Aftershock expansion, but for all intents and purposes they are islands) using various tactical and strategic means. It can be quite fun if you get into a good outfit (Planetside's term for guilds/clans). -
I played it for about a year, cancelling just before City of Villains came out (Still got on the beta though, ha!). The custimization options are truly outstanding, such that it's nearly impossible to create a character exactly like another one, unless you're trying to. Effects are likewise impressive-looking during actual gameplay.
I very much enjoyed getting my first character to level 50, but after that I didn't see much point in continuing. Missions and combat got a bit tedious, even between different classes. Certain parts of it didn't make me feel particularly "heroic", such as still having to go through unimpressive "minions" in the upper levels before getting to the real enemies. After going back for a couple of free weekends, I lost all interest in playing all together.
That said, it is still a nice change of pace from the oodles of fantasy mmorpgs out there, and there's definitely enough there to keep you entertaine for at least a few months. Also, my impressions are solely on the "Heroes" side of things, and there have been a number of updates since I quit, though the core gameplay hasn't changed. -
well im just fishing around for something fun i can pick up and play with alot of people. City of heroes just sounded fun. I kinda dont like paying 30 dollars for 2 months when i pay 50 dollars a year for xbox. I feel like im using too much money on games

i was speaking to a friend via xboxlive and he said he thought city of heroes had a trial. I was looking for a 14 day or something but i couldnt find it. Could someone maybe clear my confusion thru pointing me in the right direction or telling me my friend was wrong.

Here is some info about a CoV free trial, but I have no idea if it is a current promotion or not.

I've never actually played CoH though I considered it before I was draw into Guild Wars, if you want a 'friend' key for Nightfall I can give you mine

Sorry for bumping an old old thread, but I felt no reason to start a new thread regarding the same topic.
I'm intrigued to start playing CoH/CoV and I was wondering if both games, even though separate titles, are both in the same world. For example, if my brother buys and plays CoH and I get CoV, will I be able to see him and fight him in the same world/server? Sorry for asking such a noobie question, but my brothers and my cousins are looking to start a new MMO after leaving WoW.
And two more things:
1. is it more graphics card intensive or more RAM intensive like WoW was?
2. Will my laptop (specs in sig) be able to run these games fine?
Thanks for any help in advance! -
You should be able to run it without a problem, but it won't look as good. I'm not sure if CoH/CoV are actually in the same world, but they do have fights with each other. I didn't play CoV long enough to find out, though I liked it more than CoH.
I couldn't really give you an FPS on what you'd get, but you should be able to run the game without too much of a problem on lower settings. -

Both of the games are separate but there are common zones where you can see villains or heroes. There are PVP zones and arenas where you can fight each other. There is also a sort of neutral zone called pocket D where you can just hang and chat with players on the opposite side. Occasionaly there are events where they have co-op teams so you can team and play with opposing characters.
Both city of heroes and city of villains is more graphic intense than WoW. Moreso city of villains as it was released later and included more detail.
