Fall 2010? WTH happened to announcing games a year or two before release?

    Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
    Fallout: New Vegas

    and now Civilization V.

Also, is it just me, or are all games sequels now?

I prefer when they announce games like this, clost to release rather than dragging it out. I can honestly say that my excitement for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 has deteriorated due to the long gap between announcement and hypothetical release.

Wait until your close and THEN show it off.

Interesting, they are moving to hex maps. No more numpad movement, at least not as straight forward as it used to be. I'm more interested in the new gameplay stuff than graphics though. But yes, excited of course. :)

Yeah. I'm a fan of hex grids myself... they make more strategic sense. In the "old" 8-way, you could explore twice the territory by just moving diagonally each time.

    ^This.

Crazy. Is Sid Meier still involved with this iteration? I just finished several podcasts where he was interviewed and proclaimed he was turning his attention to Facebook. He is planning Civ for FB and was no longer doing PC/consoles.

Do we really need a 5th Civ? I'd much rather see an update to the Alpha Centauri property.

+rep to the OP for the news.

Maybe I'm just retarded...but I had so much trouble playing Civ IV. I've never played RTS games before but I've heard such good things about Civ IV and it looks soo freaking cool...but I just didn't really know how to play it right. And it seems like you gotta really dedicate some time to it to understand it, time that I don't really have.

Well, Civilization isn't an RTS. It's much more strategic and methodical - every move has to be calculated. It does have a pretty steep learning curve, but the payoff is well worth it.

are you a peaceful civ player or a war-monger? I personally like to farm specialists. The highest difficulty I can beat is Emperor. I tried Deity, but the sucker was hard as heck.

Psh, I can't even beat it on Noble. I don't have the time to play through enough times, always get to the start of the modern age and get crushed.

I just hate starting at the beginning because it takes forever to get going. I wish / hope they could improve on that.

Prionce player here, on Beyond the Sword - though most of the time these days, I'm playing either the Fall from Heaven II mods (Fall Further or Wild Mana) or the Legends of Revolutions mod. Seriously, with those out,I didn't think we'd see a Civ V - the modding community really is that good!

Now I'm eager to see what the commmunity can do with a civ V... :)

(Oh, and the best part - I saw this thread while I had Civ IV running on my laptop, right nest to me here... :) )

lol i played Civ Revolution; beat it on deity :D a hint is to gather up 3 warriors as fast as you can and then find a guy and rush him. after 3 warriors, build a galley and go off to find artifacts. but ive heard that rev is diff from the original civ games.

Revolution is a very simplified version of the Civilization games.

It's impossible to rush early like that in Civ 4. Defensive bonuses allow a single defender to take on two or three attackers.

I don't know how difficult Revolution is but, on Civ 4 deity mode, by the time you get 3 warriors out, everyone would already have horses. By the time it gets to AD, everyone is already at the industrial age. Tough as nails. By the way you are describing it, it sounds like Revolution's deity mode is akin to Civ 4's emperor mode.

well yea i guess they made it easier cuz im playing it on the ipod touch :D and I ahve never played the original Civ series. It's still pretty hard tho, there's always one faction that just dominates everyone and when you get to AD it becomes more of a one on one situation.

I'm jumping up and down like a giddy school girl! The hexagonal tiles and rounded borders look awesome. I wonder what they are going to add!

    To buy list this fall:
    Civilization 5
    Victoria II
