Shouldn't be too surprising. The game won't really push limits on the graphics side, but even Civ 4 could make a system chug in the end-game on large maps with lots of civs on the board.
Word is they've gotten the game to scale up to 12 threads in internal testing, which is awesome news if true. More games utilizing multiple cores is a good thing.

It looks like it's optimized to use multiple cores/threads. That would be totally awesome. Even Civ IV causes my desktop to chug a bit on the really big maps with ~8 civilizations. The real question is not if my computer can run it, but if I am willing to sacrifice my social life for this game
