Civilization V has to be one of my favourite games of all time. Since I was introduced to it around Feb '12, I've been playing it quite frequently and have about 80 hours logged in it. I've finally managed to beat the AI on very hard, yay! I was lucky enough to purchase it during the Steam sale, which was around 14.99$ for Game of the Year Edition (which includes almost all the DLC).
My favourite civilization (based on the racials) is Greece and Japan.
What's your current favourite civilization?
Here are the new expansion pack features:
Are you guys looking forward to it as much as I am? This game can become very addicting![]()
Civilization V (along with Heroes III) is a game with infinite replay value. If you were stuck on an island and could only choose one game, Civ V is definitely a top contender.
It'll be priced at 29.99$.
-
I grew up around CivIII but after being introduced to "fast-paced" games, I sadly no longer had the energy to put up thousands of hours on another Civ game.
However, I am seriously considering this series to be the very first PC game for my first child.
-
Looks good! Definitely taking $30 out of the Diablo 3 fund for this one.
-
England - spam triremes, level them to lvl 5 so they get the ability to shoot twice and move out in the same turn. Then you can conquer all coastal cities with 3 triremes and 1 embarked warrior. BTW, when the city has 1 hp left and you attack it even with an untrained warrior you'll always capture it successfully. But you don't stop there and keep spamming triremes. When you upgrade them to ships of the line they're unstoppable.
-
It's a good investment.
You can play OFFLINE single player/skirmishes/hotseat and you won't have to deal about ridiculous server roll backs ...unlike "some" other game
-
Are there any more details? I still prefer Civilization IV with all of its expansions over Civilization V. Maybe this expansion will change that.
-
No more details that I could find.
You can always try the Civilization V demo:
Sid Meier's Civilization V on Steam
If you like it, I wouldn't buy the GotY Edition just yet - It's at 49.99$ and I'm certain it will come down in price once the expansion releases in June, or they may bundle everything together
If you have questions about the game, feel free to ask.
Many veteran Civilization players favour IV over all others, but I believe that with this expansion, this will no longer be the case since they're introducing religion and spies to Civ V. Being able to spread your religion onto enemy civilizations and gathering enemy secrets using spies will turn Civ V into an incredible game. -
If you like CIV over CiV, this expansion will change nothing.
CiV was the biggest game disappointment I have ever had
-
I do already own Civilization V. I enjoyed it too. I just prefer to spend my shrinking spare time on Civilization IV. I just hope they add a few more expansions until it has as much content as IV... I'll wait until a final complete edition (in what, 2015?) and buy that.
-
Update:
Steam is having a -75% sale for Civ products this weekend.
Perfect time to pick up the game if you're planning on playing the expansion pack.
You will not regret this purchase (make sure to grab GOTY @ 12.49$ ...it includes all the DLC except for the Korea-Wonder pack, which is around 1.24$)
-
A quick google search tells me that people who have purchase out-of-region games (CoD; Flight Simulators) and have activated them on steam resulted in 0 issues. This is reported from people using India/Russia-Region keys, so you should be fine
-
Hmm, i should get the DLC i don't have then, i bought the game during a steam sale as well and still play it at times. It's one of my go to single player games. I haven't dared go against the higher level AIs though. I'm in it to have some relaxing fun. The game brings my G73 to it's knees though, it is ridiculously hard on the GPU for a civ game.
-
It's the most demanding game I have too, even when compared to BF3.
My fan spins super fast and my temps go up about 5-7c more than all my other games
Same here for the go-to single player game and I imagine it will be for years to come - I want to be eventually be able to beat the max AI difficulty.
@Indrek
That's too bad
-
Expansion is currently 10% off on steam.
5 more days...

^ Someone played the exact same single game for 10 years (Civ II). -
I've never played Civ II. Is it a lot more of a simulation than game compared to Civ V? You could melt ice caps and actually kill cities with nukes? Sounds quite interesting.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
If I get some spare cash, I might pick it up... Been more of a Paradox Grand Strategy guy then a Civ guy...
-
I've never played Civ 2 so I cannot comment on that.
There are nukes in 5, but no ice caps - here's a list of units if you're interested:
Civilization V Analyst: Units
Every civilization (country) has their own unique units and racials:

I know there're nukes, but they can't destroy cities. They only bring them down to 1 health if I remember correctly.
Anyone who's played Civ2, is it more simulation-like? -
You can preorder the game at greenmangaming and get a 25% discount. I already preordered through them and got my code, but I can't activate it in steam yet.
Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods & Kings | Strategy | PC Games
I'm really looking forward tot his. Hopefully there will be some optimizations as well
-

-
