So Gamasutra has an article on Firaxis doing Civilization for Facebook.

    http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25747

I'm conflicted. I hope it is good, and gives me an entirely new way to skrew off at work. ;) However, the idea of shoehorning Civ in to a Facebook-friendly game... well, I hope they make Facebook fit Civ, not the other way around. I also hope this isn't evidence of yet one more awesome dev with a great series and IP jumping ship to console/social network/casual games. I hope they leverage the income from these other types of games to drive development of thier core competancy, and don't change themselves in to some ized shell of their former selves. So what do you think?

They also took the Civ engine and threw it on the iPhone. I spent several flights playing it.

If they use the same engine and just make a Facebook Friendly UI, I can see this being incredibly successful.

Ick. On facebook you'll get bonuses for inviting friends. They killed Oregon Trail too. The only game on facebook that isn't completely inane is Scrabble/Scrabulous.

I didn't really like Civ on the iphone. It was slow and too hard to control, imo.

I think it's blasphemy, but the developers put the franchise on consoles so there's no telling how far they'll go to expand the series.
