I'm installing FreeSpace 2, and has anyone successfully played with keyboard/mouse or recommend joystick? I can't seem to get the controls with the right feel for keyboard/mouse. Anyone have recommendations? I'd prefer not to use a joystick, because I'm putting it on my laptop to play on the go.

    Thanks!

Did you download it, or do you have the original cd's? (want to sell it to me? :p).
I played with the keyboard and mouse, and I really preferred that over a joystick. IIRC, you can adjust the mouse sensitivity.

I have the originals somewhere, but bought/downloaded from gog.com and also the free open source version.

    Sacrilege!

This is one of the few games that just needs to be played with a stick of some type.

Also, did you grab the source code project? Because if you did, playing through Freespace 1 via FSPort would be the optimal experience.

I have only played both Freespace games with a keyboard so that is all I'm used to. Playing with a joystiq sure sounds interesting. I may purchase a joystick and play the game, its been a long time since I've played them. :)

It seems I'm constantly moving the mouse to turn, that kinda sucks. That's the only benefit of a joystick I see so far. Although, it would be nice to toggle on a relative axis, so your ship would turn in direction you moved your mouse and wherever it was when you turned on the toggle would be the center point. But I don't see that happening.

Maybe I just use keyboard only? Haven't had a game that I had to that with in a LONG time.
